  • Turbo tent 240 plus, a good thing or what ??

Mate, The boss and I bought a Turbo lite 240 and and have it away a few times now and they are great. One minute to put up, one minute to get the right way round and peg. Plenty of room for two camp strechers and personel gear. Wind has not been an issue yet so i can't comment. Light rain is easily deflected by the Fly.

    My advice is Buy it.

Like you we are looking at a 240 plus but also 300 plus so now just getting down to the nitty gritty.
300 plus would be good if stopping in one spot for more than one night IMO but either look good. Had looked at Oztent RV5 but for extra roof and as simple to put up my money will be going to Blackwolf.

We've got the 240 Plus Lite. Simple to put up, lots of room.

The advantages of the lite is that they are, well... Lite.

On your wallet too, compared to the non-lite. Probably depends on where you are going, and how long you are staying whether you should go Lite or not. The heavier tent is more robust and I've heard a bit cooler too. We're certainly happy with ours.

I was giving it a wash down the other day, and realised it probably needs to be seamsealed in parts, must get onto that before winter LOL

        Matt,

Be carefull of some of these other 'fly over' tents, they are a pain in the ....... to put up.

We had a Colemen version of the above, and by the time you work out which way the fly goes and peg it down, it was a 20-30 miunte exercise.

We sold it and bought an RV3 Oztent (from Ebay) Still a bit $$$, but well worth it. We use it when we travel without the Camper, (Or when extras come away with us)

We picked up a Blackwolf Turbo 300 Plus (only comes as a lite) from a Camping Store in Adelaide down at Glenelg. I think it was close to the $800 mark and the guy claims to be the cheapest on Blackwolf and other gear in Australia, and in some cases that includes shipping interstate. It's a great tent that's really quick to set up but takes a little longer to packup but practice fixes that. The only downside is the size. We have three kids so the only option is to pack the tent on the roofrack. Just about everything else fits in the back execpt the gas bottle. I can fit the 300 plus in the rear with about 100mm spare but it is tight.

Nope. Well, not on the Lite anyway, unless they have redesigned it.

The window is no-see-um mesh, and the zip-up window is on the outside.

The canvas version needs a good soak to get it waterproof, it's the first thing you should do after you buy it. The threads swell and complete the seal.

The Lite version is pretty waterproof from the get go, but some seam sealant may be required - it's pretty common on all poly/silicone tents these days. In heavy, continuous downpours the water slowly works it's way along the threads and the tiny holes created in sewing the tent and eventually finds it's way through. Seam sealing fixes that. I've noticed ours needs attention around the top vents, but it was fairly waterproof out of the box.

Packing it up is a case of familiarity and getting a bit physical with it. You have to let it know who's boss. Practice makes perfect.

I had read some where about condensation issues with the canvas ones but have noticed that they now have vents in the roof like the lite ones.

I have a canvas 240 Turbo that I am very happy with. Features I like include the quick setup, no rain getting into the tent during setup, good headroom, well made, large awning, fly or no fly, resistance to strong winds and the ability to fit into the back of the Prado. I’m not so keen on getting the tent back in the bag on cold mornings and not being able to open the windows from inside. I have only had condensation once during particularly wet, misty, cool weather but this caused no problems – mine is nearly 3 years old and has no roof vents.

I haven't tested this yet, so test on a small area first, but SeamGrip should be the go. I've seen it in various camping stores and Paddy Pallin's.

                              I have a turbo tent 300plus.
                              Positives: Easy to set up
                              Good quality ropes ,pegs,bag,frame ect
Room for sleeping gear and camping equipment inside.(including fridges and 2 KIds)
No see though material so lights inside don't invade your privacy at night.
easy to put back in bag with practice( no more than 10min dis- assemble easy)

Negetives:Bag big and heavy and needs to go on roof rack
Gets warmish with 4 people sleeping inside but has roof vents.
Is a large tent and needs aprox 6m x 3m foot print.

Summary: Great Tent for camping but with all the gear we take as well I almost need to tow a trailer as well. Not Ideal for one night stop over’s unless you travel light. We take 4wd mattress x3 and a camp bed, 2 Engels and a load of tubs, 12volt lights, 2x tables, 4x chairs, recovery gear, tool boxes and more .Same gear for 1 night as 1 week.
                              Cheers Russ
