What do you do for a living?

G'day all, I'm a 30 year veteran of the mining industry started out as an electrical assistant and worked my way down to an process operator with the odd stint at process control ( I know when the process controllers in Perth are BSing me!).

Every so often I'll be loading ore trains or doing my fulfilling my other role as on the Job trainer & assessor (cert 1V).

the prado is my 3rd 4 wheeler all being Toyotas.

G'day,

I grew up in the blue mountains nsw, which I loved but the only place to work close by there was Sydney. By the time i was 21 i had already seen enough of the horrid rat race so i made a goal to escape it and move to the country. i started by looking for work which was hard with no real experience or qualifications.
I was lucky enough to get a 1 month contract with a local gold mining company. Started out as a desktop support tech. 5 years later I am now permanently employeed, gone through a heap of training and learnt a hell of alot and now promoted to IT Supervisor. I really enjoy my job and love where I live.

Wow, lot big job in here. For me, I'm Russian cosmonaut but last year I push wrong button and Major tell me take holiday until report finished so I come to Australia. Now here 12 months, still wait for phone call to return to duty. Not worried, not good time to be cosmonaut at home. Many problems in Russia. Need good toolkit to go into space in Russia. I like Prado, big strong like Soyuz TMA M series. Much safer I think. Less buttons. Nice to meet you all here.

hi, as my sig suggests, i work as a farmer and live on a high country station in nz, growing merino wool and a some hereford cattle. my wife works in town as a p.a at an accountants, she drives the prado daily, i joint pradopoint when researching a good car to replace the bad run we had with previous choices, as our road is pretty hard on vehicles, last one was a territory that had 5 sets of ball joints, sway bar links, fuel pump,shocky bushes twice, oil lines to turbo twice, transfercase, steering shaft, idler pullies,window switches....did 149000ks, sorry for the rant!. so love the prado so far. previous jobs have been off sider for drilling companies in kalgoorlie, as a diamond driller/concrete cutter in scotland, builders labourer in london, have done a shearing season, and a harvest season in uk,( where i met my wife), have been back on the farm since jan 2002. a fair bit of my job involves riding dirt bikes and quads for mustering sheep which i enjoy, ive always worked out doors and probably always will!!. cheers brett.

I am a speaker that travels extensively throughout America for 6 months of the year. I am married to an amazing woman and I live on the Sunshine Coast. Love my Prado and love the bush.

Presently chief electrician on a class 6 ultra deep water harsh environment drillship. Responsible for everything from the floor heaters in the cabins to process and mixing systems to drilling package, main power generation and the dynamic positioning system.

Hmmm I was sure I had posted what I do in this thread but after Hutch's comment I read through from start to finish.

University part 1 gave me a degree in mechanical engineering and my first role was with a manufacturer of agricultural machinery as a design engineer. Then I joined a Japanese company and worked for the construction department building big bits on a power station site. After 3 different sites I went on to be employed in a local JV company majority owned by that company. A few more sites and now in head office. Coming up to 30 years come next January. Seems like a long time to be in one job but actually I have only really had any one job for a maximum of 4 years since each site was different and I had different roles along the way.

Working for a Japanese company has given me some good opportunities. Worked in a few locations in Oz including 3 years in WA. Also been to quite a number of sites in Japan and Canada and the US. Managed to avoid a couple that were less than ideal but missed out on the one I really wanted when the US economy went belly up several years ago. Been really good. My time overseas proved that we can do things just as well if not better than others, we have plenty to be proud of.

Highlight for me though has been building our part of a station in world record time with best practice safety results. Not bad for 25,000 tonnes and many thousands of parts and many thousands of metres of welding. Says a lot about the two years of planning and working with the manufacturing guys to make things easier and faster to build as well as cheaper to make. I guess it is ok to post this now, got to play with some big toys, for scale check out the guys on the ground!

I work for HP out here in Alice Springs....Worked at head office for many many years in lots of management roles and decided I wanted more of an adventure and here we are. Still nice to work for a global multinational where the pay cheque turns up every month ontime but have the great outdoors at your doorstep. Most of the big trips (red center) i read on here and exploroz, they are just down the road from here so we have tons of fun checking out things. One good thing about living out here you get to see different peoples setups and what works and doesn't. I wouldn't buy 3/4 of the stuff they flog you at camping shows as its plain rubbish, no need for it...

Have 2 awesome grown up kids and the wife just started a very cool job as a flight nurse on the Royal Flying Doctor based in Alice Springs...

Im a civil engineer specializing roads and highways. I generally work on major highway upgrades for top tier contractors, Ive worked mainly in South East QLD and Northern NSW with the odd remote stint.

I really enjoy it, every project is different.

My wife is an Environmental Manager who also works in the industry, me being an engineer creates some interesting dinner conversations...
