I'm travelling down to Sydney for work taking a week. Was already planning on picking up the old man in Hervey Bay for a few days on Fraser the week of 22nd April. Is this when you guys will be on the island?
Clearly I should read the thread better, sometimes I'm a complete Muppet! So yes, I'll be there, might even drive down to Rainbow to meet up, but will be leaving via the Bay to drop the old man off. Obviously Anzac Day is that week and being a serving member I might try to research if there's any services planned on the island. If not might just get up and have a dawn rum on the beach!
Tides are in favour, low is around 1130 Monday with the full moon Friday, low that day is about 1350. Good for dawn/ dusk fishing, driving during the day.
Me and some non-prado mates are heading over 9th-15th March. So if for some reason you decide to come up a month early, look out for me on the beach and tracks!
I want a job like you ####, so i can get to go on all these trips......he he
Cheers

Become self employed/self unemployed more to the point. I really need to do some more work, but all these trips and planning are keeping me too busy, now see that's priority s right...... Just need some $$$$$ to pay for it all.
You can come, start saving now!
Just take 5 working days off, weekends either side to get there and back.
Only costs will be $800 fuel, some permits, barge etc, $250-300, you have to eat even at home..... So really just over a grand for 2 ppl.
Live it up with food n drinks-add $3-400? , $500 for unknown? budget $1500-$2000, I think it will be a great week for $1500.00!
Hmm too many awesome trips happening, unfortunately I can't do them all, still keen for Simpson trip, maybe this could be a test run! #### i will know more after the weekend, will keep you informed.

Yes mate, if all goes to plan we will get on Monday 22nd. Keep an eye out here for details, I will update the first post with info.
Hopefully we can meet up!
Hi guys you may find this website helpful http://www.nprsr.qld.gov.au/parks/fraser/
I always check out the conditions report (half way down the page) before I go up fishing every year it is updated fortnightly and gives you any roads closed or problem areas it even lists the tides for the next fortnight which is very handy to know when low tide is for easier driving.
Have fun you will enjoy it and want to stay longer so don't rush on then off again to quickly as there is a lot to see.

If you're interested, there's a private 'Resort' just past Eli Creek called 'Cathedrals on Fraser'. It's got cabins but also fairly reasonable rates for camping. Has toilets, hot showers, shop for supplies and ice and stuff and a pretty impressive camp kitchen which would be good to gather in. I've been dying to try it out so I might try and come up for a few days in the middle for a short stay. It also seems like it would be a good location as, being just north of Eli Creek, it would allow you to get up to some of the northern attractions like the sandblow, wrecks and champagne pools that we normally don't have enough time between tides to get to when we stay as far south as Eurong.
and the barge is cheaper from inskip point - rainbow beach ($100 return) than from Hervey Bay ($155 return) but not much in the grand scheme of things. If you don't mind skipping the steak at Hervey Bay though, the drive back down to brisbane is much nicer along rainbow beach past double island point and you come out just north of noosa. Much nicer than the highway from Gympie. And the steaks at the rainbow beach surf club are pretty good too with a spectacular view (but might mean you miss the tide for the beach run back if you stay for a few bevvies)
Being a Brissie local I would concur with this, so much so doing just that at Easter myself...you guys down south have the Victorian High Country us Queenslanders have Cape York and Fraser!!
And from Brissie it's a weekend trip for me......is it Easter yet???

We are going to be on Fraser just before you arrive. We are staying at Cathedrals and will be taking a TVAN that we are hiring. This is going to be a test run to see how it all goes with our bub who will be almost 1 by then.
Our plan is to dive up in two days with a stop over in Yamba. Head over from inskip point. I get an easy run north as wife and bub are flying up to Brissie to spend time with her mum. At this stage we are staying a week, so should be plenty of exploring. The return trip is going to be via Hervey bay as i have relos that live on acerage just out of town. This will give me time to head up to Bundy to help their economy by spending up big at the Rum factory.
I have been to the Island a few times just doing day trips from Hervey Bay, but this is going to be awesome staying on the Island. We are going to be camping with a few of the wife's relos - which is really better than it sounds. So far the vehicles in our group are 4 Prados, a 200 Series and a Rangie (i think).
Don't think I will be able to make it over to Fraser with you guys, however if you leave out of Hervey Bay I live very close to the barge terminal and there is always cold beer in the fridge! Would also be interested in meeting up at Rainbow for a day trip if you leave from there.
Cheers Matt
