Just beware that Big RED will be closed to ALL Traffic from 7th July until 14th July, due to Big Red Bash Concert.
Little Red will be open to all traffic as the detour.

Thanks for the heads up PradoGXL08, we meet up in Cunnamulla on the 13th of July, so Big Red should be open for business by the time we roll into Birdsville.

I’m going to power up the Prado for this trip too, I already have a dual battery system installed under the bonnet, and am going to set up a second dc-dc unit in the cargo area for the 3rd battery.

The first dc-dc is a Ctek D250S taking care of the Amaron start battery and the Exide 97Ah auxiliary battery.

The second unit is a Redarc LFP1225 unit to take care of the lithium 100Ah battery that I’m yet to figure out where to position it.

I’ll post some photos of the install.

You realise that you do not actually cross Big Red when crossing the Simpson? The track has not gone over it for at least 15 years I reckon. Therefore, the only restriction is that you cannot climb Big Red and there may be a detour around the area to the immediate west of Big Red where the concert is held.

Exhaust system renewed, Pacemaker headers and King Brown 2 1/2” stainless pipes, nothing wrong with the cats, so they were re-used, saved about $380 each.

Hi Raedon, sorry mate, the aux battery tray was installed by the original owner, so I’m unsure of brand etc...
Plenty of aftermarket battery trays available though, and I think you have to move the power steering reservoir as well.

Getting closer to my goal of being as “off the grid” with 12V dc power as I can.

Redarc LFP1225 dc-dc smart charger with solar, lithium 100Ah battery.

Im 85% happy with the wiring job, just a bit more tweaking to do and I will be comfortable with the system being pretty much set and forget.

Count down for the Simmo crossing - t-minus 15 weeks and counting...!!!

Second lot of mechanical work done yesterday. Now all i hopefully need is a couple of engine mounts and steering rack mounts, then i should be good to go..! Getting the suspension checked by the team at opposite lock tomorrow, hopefully everything is ok with the suspension...
