  • TRIP REPORT : Flinders trip- April 2009

Just getting some expressions of interest at this stage. I'm in the early stages of planning this trip.

"Around" late March next year (but not Easter) and taking about 4 days. Thinking a weekend plus two week days, say a Friday and a Monday.

Myself and a mate are definites at this stage, wifes staying home so we'll be swagging it.

    Loose plan at this stage:

Adelaide to camp at Warrens Gorge- Do Mt Arden track.

Back roads to Angorachina and camp. Do PAR 3 to Nuccaleena mine, then the PAR 5 and 7 to Patawarta Gap and the Artimore homestead ruins.

Down to Willow Springs to do Skytrek or maybe Arkapena Station to do the Chace range track, then home to Adelaide.

Anyone interested in joining in on this trip feel free to PM and I'll keep you up to date as the plans come together.

    Mick

I am envious. Sounds like a great little run. If I was anywhere near there, I would be in for sure. We had a ball our last trip through the Flinders.

No worries.. still early days so I'll work out the finer details over the Christmas break.

The timing is less than ideal as it may still be quite warm (average temp for this area in march is 30 degrees) but Easter is out for me (plus it'd be quite busy) and with my wife pregnant, she won't let me get away much

Assuming we have a "good" baby I'm allowed to do a trip later in the year, around Sept. I'm hoping I can get away for a week and do a Simpson crossing. I can keep you posted on that one too if your interested. It'd be something like up the Oodnadatta track-Simpson crossing-Birdsville track.. maybe 6 to 7 days.

Mick, If youre going up PAR 3 to Nucaleena, consider going onto Warraweena on the gated track out of there, really nice run
camping and showers on waraweena are pretty good too
          Cheers

Aha. I was looking at your itinerary and wondering why everything seemed a little rushed...

We haven't made any firm plans yet, but Flinders is on the agenda next year. Will keep an eye on this trip, you never know.

Good luck with the little one. When's it due?

I haven't heard of a track that cuts through to Warraweena.. is it still on Moolooloo (sp?) stations land? who do I need to contact for permission and details?

Good luck with the little one. When's it due?
Thanks, due May 24. Had to give up our trip to Alice for the Prado Point 2009 GTG but at least I'm allowed to do a couple of little trips on my own next year.

We actually got pregnant somewhere between Birdsville and Cameron Corner which I think is a good omen... I'm hoping the baby will be a good traveller/camper!!

                    Gday Mick,
Was considering doing the Simpson following the 2009 GTG but that's currently being reconsidered at the moment. If July 09 falls through then I might be interested in joining up and bringing my father in law so a 120 series and 100 series.

I'd be real keen on Oodnadatta, Simpson and Birdsville.

Sure, sounds good. I'll start a seperate thread on the Simpson trip a bit further down the track as plans fall into place. I'll keep you informed on whats happening.

In regards to the Flinders trip, I'll have firm dates and plans up over the next fortnight.
