    Re: Flinders trip- 2009

    Looks like weekend before Easter.

Weekend plus monday and tuesday min... with wednesday as a back up day incase things get stretched out.

If you take mon-thursday off you actually get 10days off due to the Easter break. This means you can do this trip, plus get a day or two to yourself and still do the family thing for Easter.... works for me anyway.

    Rough plan (to be confirmed):

Saturday 4th- Early start, drive to Quorn and pick up keys, drive to Warren Gorge and complete Mt Arden track which loops back to the gorge for our over night camp.

Sunday 5th- Travel back roads via Progyis grave, Simmonston ruins and have lunch at the Kanyaka ruins. Take the highway north, then PAR 3 to Nuccaleena mine and camp along the creek bed there.

Monday 6th- Double back along PAR 3 to Moolooloo station and take PAR 4 and 5 to Patawarta Gap and the Artimore HS ruins. Carry on PAR 4 and time permitting visit Blinman. Camp the night at Wilpena Pound camp ground.

Tuesday 7th- Willow Springs Station and SkyTrek.... those that want to have the option to return to Adelaide late afternoon... or..another night at Wilpena gives people the option to look around the Pound and the former station.

I'll follow up with fees/costs/more details later.

    Mick

Three people in two vehicles going so far...

Suitable for carefully driven, standard vehicles. There are chicken tracks around the worst bits (Which would be the larger wash outs/ruts on PAR 4)

Me to, any movement on the swag yet?

Havn't started researching but the one 'pradogxlv6' bought seems tops. Wonder how many orders they need b4 offering a group discount.

                Will send an e-mail tonight.

I put together a bit of a rough map to show the general trip plan. It's not to scale but you get the idea.

For a change of scenery the return trip to Adelaide can be taken over Cradock- Orroroo-Jamestown etc

Looks like a great trip MickL. My in-laws live in Wilmington, so I just love to go driving around this area whenever we visit. Last time we did the Wilpena, Blinman, Parachilna loop. Might have to try a couple of the routes you have marked. In fact, we're hoping to get down this way again either just before or after the PP 2009 GTG.

                              Hey Mick,

You mentioned the Chase Range in your first post, i would vote for that one if its still on the cards. I walked through there years ago and havn't been aware of a 4wd track, would love to go back and have a look.

I have spoken to a mate who has expressed some interest in coming in my car.

The Chace Range 4WD track is on Arkapena station, near Rawnsley Park station (across the road almost), just south of Wilpena Pound. We can do it on Wednesday if your keen to stay the extra day. It takes abut 5hrs and costs $35.

Can be done as an alternative to SkyTrek too.

I have my brother coming in the Prado with me. There's also a a guy I know coming solo in a Surf.
