Yeah agree with mackayvx on this one. You will pay double the rate per hour (or close to it) and as mackayvx said, if its out of warranty then take it to the specialist. I know a dealer ship here in Sydney that send their vehicles out side of the toyota work shop to get any transmission work done, including manual boxes...........Cheers Steve
The transmission plan will hold around 3.5L so 4L to drain and refill sounds right. Drain 3.5L, fill 4L, let it circulate then open check plug to correct level.

Have Factory Extended Warranty till 2015 or 150k, that's why I've been going
To Dealer. Fair enough with the 4 litres then, but there was mud all around trans pan/drain & filler plugs,
Still the same after service, I'd expect them to be wiped clean after service, so I doubted they,d done anything.
Will take your advice & go pro trans specialist

Id be asking them how did they drain or refill the transmission when there is still dirt and crap on the bolts etc. See what the bullshit excuse is ??.........Cheers Steve
My Toyota Dealer quoted $350 for Gearbox Fluid flushed and changed, Told me they the flush the torque converter properly etc. I suppose its not to bad going considering the cost of Trans Fluid. They also quoted me $190 for both the front and rear diff oils changed. I always have gone to Morley Galleria Toyota in WA for any work that I haven't been able to do myself and find they are really good to deal with and not to overly priced considering it's a dealer

Hi I just requested some tech info from a work contact at Toyota regarding how to check the 750 auto without the intelligent tester to give the Auto temp and in the info sheet it has the following refill amounts,
Removal and installation of oil pan (Including oil drain) 1.7 litres.
Removal of transmission valve body assy 4.3 litres
removal of torque converter assy 5.4 litres
so just removing the pan to drain 1.7 litres is not a great deal of fluid changed!
IMO flushing is a waste of $$$.
I used to use a machine to flush them.
We used to flush 15litres.......
It goes in one end out the other.
So it's still not getting it all out.
There's nothing to separate the new from the old, you cannot run it dry.
So what's coming out is also new oil that just went in mixed with the old stuff.
There is a drain bolt there for a good reason, drop it out and refill is quick, easy and cost effective.
Yes it doesn't all come out, but either does flushing......
Just drop it more often if you want it cleaner.
A change usually gets 5 liters out.
That's pretty good. Just my 2 cents or so?
There is definately more than 1.7L of oil in the pan. The pan holds nearly 4L with the engine off. 1.7L might be the volume with the engine running and oil circulating.

I have noticed recently that the gear box tends to hold onto a gear longer, or be reluctant to flick into overdrive. To get it into overdrive i often had to flick it out of "D" into "4" and then back into D and that would make it kick into overdrive.
Hi johnnydrama,
I have seen this in my '05 5speed petrol too, whilst towing my caravan. Not very often, but enough to stand out as being different. Have you experienced the problem since replacing your trans fluid?

I get that as well, not towing or anything (mine's a 09 diesel). Happens more when the car is cold(ish). On the freeway the speeds are max 100km/h so when you drive around there it takes forever to jump into overdrive. Doesn't happen when warm, might be the way it's supposed to be?
Is it the fifth gear change or the lock up torque converter not locking up till it gets to a certain temp. I know my wifes auto in her Toyota wont go into 4th (speed auto) until a certain temp.. Not sure what the temp is. My old VL commodore wouldn't go into overdrive until 75k which was too lower speed, use to drone. Havnt noticed it with my 5 speed auto as mine is warmed up by the time I get to the main road (10 minutes of roundabouts and crap)......Cheers Steve
Another PP member and I are doing a complete transmission flush and changing all the diff oils plus crankcase this Friday. If anyone wants any 'rough' pics or measurements please get in touch. Should be an interesting day!??

Sorry Andrew - haven't been around much so haven't seen your question.
Post-Transmission fluid change I did still see the reluctance to drop into overdrive - but it did happen a lot less. i.e. I'm pretty sure i only ever see it when towing now - whereas before - I'd see it when cruising without the camper as well.
