Mozz
PWM (pulse width modulated) is coming from the ECU.
We are giving it 12 volts over a 12 Ohm 50 watt resistor mounted to a aluminium plate for heat distribution. It is not necessarily the voltage that matters, more the current. We had used a 25 watt resistor but was concerned with the heat (+80 deg C) so went to a 50 watt aluminium cased resistor.

Hey Rusty what voltage does the lock up solenoid require.Originally posted by Rusty62 View PostHey Bill, we still here.
We used a 12 ohm 50 watt resistor to give 1 amp for the solenoid in the gearbox and a 6.8 ohm 100 watt for the ecu return signal. The pic has a 12 ohm 25 watt resistor.
Trav is doing a better circuit and will post hopefully later today. I will also try to get a pic of the aluminium plate i used to mount the resistors on.

Pic of the plate with resistors. This was taken with a usb camera. I mounted a spare resistor if one failed. This plate (100 x 100 )is mounter on the side next to glove box using a 6mm screw into a spare thread on the side.

Rusty.
I thought it had been stated as 5 volts.
Is the resistor set up you have working ok.

You could have the ecu re mapped. Cost would be a lot more than building a kit, but easier.

Is it possible just to get the tranny ecu remapped?
Reprogram so it comes in at 85 in 4th for example

Yes it can have its advantages Bill, having an older (simpler) beast. Good luck with yours and getting out there to use it. Mixing it with the grey nomads should be fun!!! Have to get back to Darwin one day, was there in 2013. It had changed since 1979......
Cheers, Jamie

Hi Rusty, I had a look at your circuit, looks impressive, but Im sorry it doesn't do much for me at the moment. I do wish I knew a bit more on the auto electronics side of it all. Not to worry I will try to work it all out. Thanks for trying mate. Take care and cheers Bill

Hi Jamie, Long time no hear, sounds like you have the right Prado. Some time the older beasts are better. Good to hear alls well with it. We will be heading out with the pop top soon as our dry season is fast on the way. Plenty of Nomads here already, so will have to get working on the locker kit. Take care Bill.

Thanks Rusty, I have been playing with the mapper and am starting to get my LHK a bit better. Have fully blocked off and engine gas to fresh air via catch can so alls heading in the right direction. Back to work .Cheers Bill.

Hi Bill.Originally posted by chardo View PostThanks Rusty, I have been busy getting my Manual mapper etc. set up in between work and all. I have put the lock up on hold for a moment. I wrote you a message the other night and must have forgotten to post it. Thanks again mate. Have a good weekend.PS how is the new engine going??? Cheers Bill.
New engine feels fine but have only done 50000 since rebuild. Not using the car for work anymore due to not working but have a position starting 18th April and will be supplied company car, so both the 120 and the 100 will stay in the shed. You will like the manual mapper from Ozbush. With the 100% block your engine will no longer eat its own poo making the inlet clean forever. Run our at +8 and like the way the auto changes similar to standard. At -5 the auto changes at slightly higher rpm. Still chasing Trav for the new circuit for the T/C lock.

Hi all,
Thread still going, and seams like the 5 speed gives a few headaches getting sorted out.
FYI, mine (4 speed) is still going strong, no problems what so ever. Still using the lockup all the time. Can't drive it without it now..
Keep up all the good work guys.
Cheers, Jamie

Hi All, Im still struggling along when time permits. The resistors I have found are:: Aluminium cased 6.8 ohms x 5 watt from Hong Kong. And 21watt x 8 ohms aluminium cased Led load resistor ( Narva). Are these the bits I need???? Take care, cheers Bill.
