Hi Rusty, Bugger,Bugger. I have just returned from trip to Perth. We traded old single axle Jayco for new Jayco Journey tandem axle. Bit heavier but nicer to tow. I bought and fitted a Wholesale Automatics lock up kit while down there. Just over $600 with postage. I had my own ready to fit at home but didn't have the confidence. Oh well. My beast is coming up to 200ks shortly and is going sweet except for the clunk into reverse. I think its the rear diff play. I met a mate the other day owns a hilux with D4D engine has over 300ks on with nothing done to engine except normal oil, filters etc.
just keep driving he said. I had a pleasant surprise the other day, I went to Darwin Toyota and asked about new dash as mine looks like a road map. A week later he rang me back and said new upgraded one on the way from Japan. No charge including fitting. Has to be under 10 years old. Im chuffed. Hope all is well your end and I know that you will do well with the new kits. Great price too. Take care and cheers Bill.

You will need power, earth, and cut 2 wires from the ECU and solder in new wires to control unit. Remove glove box and trim and access is easy.

    Will post pics later.

Just finished testing the last version of lockup switch, with PCB boards instead of multi wires. Improved plugs as well.
My son (Trav ) will make 10 kits for the A750 to suit 120 series 5 sp and Landcruiser 100 5 sp. Cost will remain at $350 plus postage.
If you want one please send PM.

    Rusty.

Cost will be $350 plus postage. These units will have push button to lock and brake light to unlock or for an extra few dollars have any type of switching you want.

We cannot guaranty you won't hurt your A750 but i have been using mine for several years in the 120 with nil issues.

Just PM me if you want one.

    Thanks.

    Russell.

You can't use it on deep sand because you need the torque to plough through it - this applies to any. I have done some experimenting on Goolwa Beach

I am very pleased with mine - I paid $490 for it at the 4wd show and on a recent trip towing my camper saved me 2litres/100 km. Got 12.8 average going to Barmera including some non locked up driving through Adelaide in shocking traffic against 15 for the previous trip to Broken Hill

Those without the TC lock please use 4th gear when towing. The water increases to 96deg when locked in 5th and unless you have a scangauge the dash temp meter barely moves. Using 4th will allow the TC to lock via the ecu and save overheating both the box and engine. The engine temp drops back to 89 in 4th at 100kph.

We're on our way to Darwin now now from Perth, finding D slipping and revs going up but not changing down to 4 but doing so myself and then the revs go to 2500 at about the 90 mark rather than the 2200 in D and slipping ,
Got some miles to go before we get back to Perth but gonna look into it then, we are towing a van mind you just over the 2 tonne.
    Cheers Alan.

Have retired (sold) the Prado, and upgraded to a 200series. Pleased to report my lock up was still working perfect when it left. No ill effect on the tranny.
The 200 already has a lock up kit, by me (Richardson auto electrics S.A.). I thought the 120 series was bad in the changing, but the 200 is 1000 times worse. The lock up fixed that, mostly.
Anyway, looks like you guys are really getting it together with the 5 speed lock up, well done.
I won't have any more to report but will look on with interest.
    Regards, Jamie

    Hello boys,
Been reading through this thread and it's a bit over my head, my 120 Kd 5 speed towing the van could do with a lockup in D , any one doing this in Perth that you know of ,
    Cheers Alan.

We are giving it 12 volts over a 12 Ohm 50 watt resistor mounted to a aluminium plate for heat distribution. It is not necessarily the voltage that matters, more the current. We had used a 25 watt resistor but was concerned with the heat (+80 deg C) so went to a 50 watt aluminium cased resistor.

    Rusty.
Yeah but the resistor will bring the voltage down relative to the current draw of the solinoid. So for argument sake your battery voltage is 13.5 and the solinoid draws 1 amp with a 12 Ohm resistor in series the voltage across the solinoid would be around 2 volts. Is this sounding like what you have.
