My intention is to fit it after the radiator cooler and see how that goes, theory and real world experience might not be the same and I can always change it later if not happy.
As for the reduced performance of your radiator due to the extra cooler in front, remember that in theory your trans oil going to the radiator will be cooler so you your radiator should have less work to do, so should to some degree balance out the lower efficiency.

SA gets just as hot as WA, remember - they're on the other side of that great big desert to us. I run the tranny cooler after the radiator for best thermal efficiency. I also have big Hella spotties and winch regulator box in front of the grill and they make diddly squat difference to the airflow. The secret to keeping temperatures lower on the sand (beach) is to drive in lower gears, keep it out of "D", keep your tyre pressures low to suit the conditions. Driving in low range also causes an almost immediate 10 or so degrees drop in water temperature so imagine how better that is for your trans. The theory is to make life easy for your drive train and everything will be fine. Push hard against the sand and the temperatures of both engine and trans will climb. Try it your self next time you venture out onto the beach. Go for a drive in "D" with tyres down. Then try the same in 3 or 4 (you only have a 4 speed yes?). Then drive again in low range. Be kind to your machine.Dave

Replacing fluid in my 120 is next on the list. I have the 5 speed so WS fluid and no dipstick but good info earlier in the thread about how to do it so comfortable with that. Only question is in regard to the filter. Is it necessary to also replace it in these trannys or is it ok to just do the flush? At $50 ish it seems silly not to do it as well but not much reference to it in earlier posts. Research so far indicates Ryco RTK33 is the one I need.1997 petrol auto, 430 000km. Still going strong.
2004 petrol auto, 233 000km. Cracked dash and no help from Toyota!
