well the belt snapped last week, so I replaced it. Now it has started squeeling again, my concern is that the reason it snapped last time was that it was too tight. It only squeels when under heavy load and changing gears ie taking off from lights or going up hills. From what I can tell its the AC pulley thats squeeling.
Any ideas? could it be someting wrong with the compressor gettting too tight and putting too much presuure on the belt?
Have had a compressor bearing go on the pulley before.

If it only squeals with the aircon on I would check the compressor to make sure it is not
seized.
If it is ok then you may not have tensioned the belt enough when you installed, did you run
it for awhile after installing and then rechecked the tension, if not then retension and try it again.
If it still plays up then most likely either the alternator, tensioner or air conditioning compressor bearings
are faulty or air con is over pressuring for some reason.

If none of the above stop the squeal also make sure that it is not the harmonic balancer! (Lower engine crank shaft pulley) There is a very thin rubber insert towards the inner part of the crank pulley that absorbs engine vibration. Draw a distinctive white line from the inner of the crank pulley to the outer edge of the pulley. (Front part as in where the center nut goes) Start the engine and rev it to make the belt squeal. Once you have made the belt squeal turn the engine off and check to see if the line on the front of the pulley still lines up. If the line is no longer lined up then your harmonic balancer (Lower engine crank shaft pulley) is worn!
Having the same problem as Kav, had my belt replaced at 205,000km after it began shredding which I had a spare belt on board. Apparently it had the original belt on it so really did quite well. I supplied the belt to Toyota which they fitted it, 2 days after it starting squealing for the first few minutes till the engine began warming up. It's just gotten worse and sounds rotten when you start it and quite embarrassing . I've had all the pulleys off and replaced a few but still the same noise. Ive got it booked in on Monday to have the bullbar mounts replaced as part of the recall which I only was contacted about the other day. They are going to check it out and hopefully replacing the belt with the genuine Toyota belt might fix the problem. Ta

Seems to be quite a common problem. I had it too. Go for the simplest first - the A/C belt. Easy way to be certain of it being the A/C is to get it squealing and switch off the A/C. Mine would squeal whenever I switched the A/C on. The fix is easy. First remove the belt. Clean the contact surfaces of the pulleys with WD40 or similar. Replace with genuine Toyota belt. Guaranteed to fix it. Cheapskate option but not 100% guaranteed to fix. Clean contact surfaces of belt with WD40 or similar and refit original belt.
So picked up the car after work last night from Morley Galleria Toyota (WA) & all sorted. The service rep contacted me saying it needed a new belt and now there is no problems. They also checked the idler pulleys and can confirm they were all ok! Very satisified that I wasn't ripped of and they also did an excellent job of the bullbar! Very Impressed!
