  • 120 Cabin Air Filter

    Hi all,

This might appear as a real dumbo question. I've recently fitted a cabin air filter to our LC120 Prado and it got me to thinking.

I seem to remeber someone once saying that you should drive on dirt roads with the cabin air always selected to "fresh", even when following someone elses dust, to maintain positive pressure in the cabin to prevent dust being sucked in through the seals and elsewhere.

This doesn't sound right to me, even with the cabin air filter, having it on fresh when following someone surely is going to eat dust.

    I always use fresh unless:
    • It's >35°C OAT
      When I'm in slow traffic
When I'm following a stinky car with an oil burning problem
Or when I'm following/passing someone on the dirt

What do others do? Just curious.

I ended up with more dust in the Prado than I expected after a dirt trip through Hill End a couple of weekends ago, hence I chased up the cabin air filter (see http://www.pradopoint.com/viewtopic.php?t=84) and this is why I'm wondering about the use the recirc.

    Cheers all,

    Drew.

Fresh air to pressurize cabin area, UNTIL, meeting dust from other vehicles, then change to recirculate until dust has gone then back to fresh.
Only place I have found any dust has been in the jack area in l/h rear, and only a small amount. Been right around once and up the middle once.

          Thanks for the reply John,

It's good to hear that someone else is getting a little bit of dust in the jack compartment, it's not just me!

I also get a little bit of dust on the "A" pillar where it meets the dash. :? Strange. Even since I installed the Toyota filter.

          Thanks for the feedback,

          Drew.

The cheapest way of getting a filter, is, to speak to any Airconditioning mechanic, whose van you see anywhere, and ask him mif he has a small piece of filter material, approx, 18" x 12" x 1/2" .
We all used to carry some in the vans at all times.
Will probably get it for nothing, or a couple of dollars will do the trick..

                Cheaper than "genuine"

Drew I get dust inside something bad.
I did one red centre trip on recirc and it was terrible. I reckon I had more dust in the car than there was in the whole simpson. The second trip I did on fresh and it was better but marginally. I like driving with the window down but it just sucks the dust in. I am going to remove my rear vents, located under the rear bumper and filler foam them up.
My dust was so bad I took photos of it and it showed up like sand. BAD BAD BAD.

i also did a hill end trip recently and had it constantly on re-circ. Car was chock-full with dust...everywhere...i just assumed it was not possible to avoid this, but some of you guys are saying you only get dust in the jack compartment?? my dash was covered as was the back of the boot - seemed to have some through the boot door...???!!!

Have a look Here. It might give you a bit more info. There was also some chat, a while back, about some door seals failing and being replaced.

                        Cheers
