  • Got the car serviced today. Oh - your car has a recall for the towbar. I said I don't have an OEM towbar. Service girl says no worries, we'll still charge them for doing the inspection job at 2.2hrs!

Suppose this the last Service in Kalgoorlie before the move to the smaller town of Broome - you confident with them up there to service the car? Or is it a quick trip over to Darwin, visit the other PP members there and back?

Dueler120 up in Broome, he would be in the know to use....

Yet to get mine done - use TLC O'Connor and has to be special trip to City Toyota - no service $$ for them just warranty work

            • G'day all

Had mine booked in at Toyota for the recall today. Got 2, YES 2 calls saying that the parts haven't arrived and they will call me when they get here.

Amazing that they called. But again I say Grand Motors here on the Goldie are good.

              Cheers and Beers

              • Had the recall done yesterday during the service. They say they replaced all the bolts and everything looked good.

They were the pricks that told me not to get a Hayman Reece towbar when buying new. Said to get the Toyota one for warranty reasons. Also took 3 goes at fixing the air-conditioning with bullshit reasons for not having it fixed, until I informed them that I was in that trade.
Was lucky that the vehicle has been great for the last 10 1/2 years.

Will now get the Hayman Reece tow bar so I can still use a decent hitch.

                  • Just rang up the local Toyota Dealer to book vehicle in for towball recall. Basically was told that I would need to use a Toyota weight distribution hitch with my genuine Toyota towbar. In other words I would have to abandon using my Hayman Reese weight distribution hitch and Hayman Reese dual-cam anti-sway device. The Toyota Handbook says to use an anti-sway device when the vehicle weighs less than the trailer (page 251) as in my case. Therefore Toyota are breaching their own guidelines in supplying a weight distribution hitch without the anti-sway control device.

My only solution is to purchase a Hayman Reese towbar but the Toyota Dealer said that Toyota will not refund any money paid for the useless Toyota towbar. Needless to say that I cancelled the appointment with the dealer as their is no point in wasting more of my time.

I have just had to fork out a lot of money to replace failing injectors in my D4D 2007 Prado and I have had a gut-full of Toyota and their arrogance towards their customers.

                    • The Toyota LDH is a piece of garbage. The pins are hard to get in, takes long to set up and makes no difference to levelling the car. The only positive thing I can find I can open the rear door with the caravan on the car. Regret giving them a good Hayman Reese for it should have just fitted a Hayman Reece tow bar.

                      • Took mine in to Nunawading Toyota last week, got the service guy to do a walk around to check
vehicle for damage and especially the bumper. Work finished, checked car, bumper scratched, even though the scratch wasn't there when they did the walk around their still trying to get out of it, the usual mechanic said he didn't do it, can't expect to have work done and no scratches etc!

I would no longer recommend them to anyone.

I put a 'wanted' ad in Gumtree to buy a basic light duty WDH. Picked one up for $40 and gave that to the dealer instead of parting with my Hayman Reese WDH. Funny thing is that the new toyota one doesn't look much better than the piece of junk I gave them!!

                          • I'm a bit late on this thread BUT I have done some research on this subject. Toyota now have "genuine" WDH (weight distribution hitch) tow bars fitted to the 120 series Prado are pretty ordinary. There is an official recall if your car is registered with Toyota as you being the owner according to Toyota. The cast steel factory fitted unit is not strong enough to stand the strains which can be applied if towing a van. Toyota's way of dealing with this issue is to check their tow bar bolts then put a sticker on the vehicle & give the owner a written disclaimer notice to the fact that unless you use "genuine WDH" they will take no responsibility as to any failure of the system. If your a vanner the problem is Toyota's WDH is a much lighter unit not really capable of good weight distribution. So for people like myself my only option is to spend hundreds of dollars and replace the ordinary factory fitted piece of junk. Toyota must have come to their senses as the 150's have a "proper" tow bar fitted. I suppose a half hearted recall is better than none, which is probably what would have happened if people didn't do any research.

                            • When I say I'm a bit late on reply oops my stupid only read first page then I found all the rest wow my two bobs worth not much. as AH197331 bought some rubbish WDH from Gum tree I sold a set which were as punk as the Toyota ones for $20. Like I said I'm out of pocket for 500 buck but now I can tow and not have things fall off.

                              • Finally my new tow bar arrived and was fitted last week. Looks identical to the original bar that they removed . They don't supply a new hitch and you use the old one , only the hitch receiver replaced.
