  • Grinded the rust out of the rear door seal and repainted. Good as new.
    2007 GXL V6 - ARB Bullbar with LED lights, snorkel, extractors, 2 1/4" dual exhaust, K&N filter, dimpled/slotted rotors, headrest dvd players, Ebay Satnav/reverse camera, GME 3100TX, Tigerz11 Side awning on custom brackets with Maxtrax mounts, 300W Invertor, ARB Underbody protection, Lightbar and STZ 265/70 tyres.
    Wish list in order I'll get them: Sliders, 2" lift, E-locker, Winch bar with winch.

    • Went and had a look at some tough powder coatings for my bull bar re-paint. Now to pull the bar off.

      • Changed air filter... turns out snorkel has been useless for a while due to this little "droopy dick" vent just after the vortex spinner. Will seal it up to prevent any disasters! Good news is the clean side of the airbox has no dust or dirt at all

        • That rubber device is designed to capture some of the gunk that settles in the bottom of the air-box. Do not seal it, just make sure it is properly done up. That muddy residue can get in from two places: down through the snorkel (if you have one) or in via the air intake which is located under and inside the right fender and also via the 3 tiny holes in the bottom corner of the air box. Most seal these 3 little drain holes up to stop muddy water entering when it get slashed up inside the engine bay. If you have a snorkel fitted you may need to check the joint between the inner pipe and fender side pipe that leads into the airbox.

            The rubber thing was sealed to the airbox well, its just aged and permanently open now instead of the "lips" sealing against themselves. The 3 drain holes have been silicone up from the snorkel installation. If the rubber piece can be had from Toyota I will replace it otherwise I'll have to seal the old one and check it regularly as it completely defeats the purpose of the snorkel. The muddy water definitely came through that. You can see in the 2nd pic, the lips are permanently open, I remember when it was new you could squeeze it to open the flaps and wasps and flies that had gone into the snorkel would fall out haha

            • Yeah you can do away with it if you're like me and check and clean the airbox frequently. When I vacuum the car I also suck all the dust from the airbox.

              • Removed the ARB bar in preparation for it's new paint job next week.



                This scrape has been here for 7 years courtesy Mundaring Power Line track.



                The paint started fading and cracking after about 2 years in the desert sunshine.



                All stripped and minus fittings.



                Ugly duckling will soon be beautiful and shiney again.

                • 195,000k's about to tick over during the week, so it was time to change the oil and rotate all 5 wheels today.
                  I'm really impressed with the BFG's, as they have been on since just before the GTG in 2012. They've done 2 GTG's, Googs, Oodnadatta track and a few interstate road trips. They have around 5mm of tread left so it will be time to start thinking about replacing them soonish.

                    • I am not going with body colour paint as it would just scratch and chip way too fast due my off-roading habits. It would also gradually fade again. I'm going with a textured military grade coating that is going to be charcoal coloured with a metallic flake look. The stuff is not affected by UV and will not scratch. It is also highly chip resistant so I will probably look at getting the alloy rims done to match.

                      • I did my first mods to my newly purchased Prado. Installed a reversing camera, usb socket in one of the blanks, and a new head unit. All went surprisingly smoothly considering A) my amateurness and B) how many bits I had to pull out. Not a single piece left over at the end, which is a first for me. haha

                        Only had one false start: I used some quick splice blocks to connect up the power initially but the gauge of wire was significantly different between the car electrics and the camera so it didn't actually pierce the smaller of the two wires. Ripped out the quick splice blocks and just did it the old fashioned way and it all worked.

                              • Raining today so stuck in the man cave. So, I pulled this sucker apart.



                                Surprisingly it's in really good nick after 6 years behind the bar. Clean up, new grease and strip and paint the drum (again) and she'll be good for another 6 years. The dynamica rope tends to hold moisture so the drum rusts out. Also going to conceal the control box when I get my bar back.
