A slight reduction in intake air temps and possibly EGT as well and, oh, I dunno, looks cool?Originally posted by thebigo View PostThat looks great. Out of interest what improvements will a mod like this bring?
Form and function, perfect?
When I'm towing up hill I have been getting IAT's up around 90 deg so see how it goes next time we're out and about with the camper on a trip.
I probably wouldn't have done the mod if it didn't really only cost $65 or so and some of my time.
Cheers

$65 + postage for the scoop from a wreckers online, the donor hilux being the same colour as my car, though there is a slight difference in colour due to fading of either my bonnet or the scoop.
No painting required other than treating the cut/drilled edges with rust preventative and touch up paint. Gave the edges a coat of wax protective spray as well. The only other cost was $10 for a couple of metres of EPDM 12x7mm foam strip to seal the scoop to the bonnet (12mm was too wide but it was the narrowest they stock in that profile - I just cut it in half lengthwise).
Lets see if there is a reduction in intake air temps and maybe EGT's too.
Cheers

Awesome job on the scoop, it looks like it rolled out of the factory with it on.
My Prado got a new EGR position sensor, i polished some yellowing out of the headlights, adjusted the handbrake, passed it for pink slip and got another years rent on her. I also ordered an EGT gauge and some Philips extreme vision headlight globes.

Dropped the Reader on it to clear the codes, all is good.
Old original one lasted 240,000 kms.

Haha measure 20k times, cut, then hope to god that those 20k measurements are right :lol:Originally posted by adrian5800 View PostThanks. There's no second guessing when your attacking the bonnet with the angle grinder - measure 20k times, cut once..

kind na of wish I had a reason just to fit one.

Today fitted the snorkel. Last week was roof rack cross bars and basket along with LED driving lights.
"Playdough" is now starting to look like a 4WD now rather than a "Mall Crawler"
Next on the list are 50mm lift, Foxwing Awning and decent A/T tyres. Oh and fit the winch that I purchased for the Surf 4 years ago and never got around to fitting
