Hi ejukated you will need to buy another part if you want to control the unit from the steering wheel
-
no i didn't want steering wheel controls, you would have to buy another part and wiring loom I suspect.

Apart from getting it the right way round first time, probably just knowing where it is ( i didn't) and the best way to access it.Originally posted by thebigo View PostAny tricks or comments about doing the thermostat? I heard they were a PIA to do.
So my radiator was out / bash plates off and i opened up the flap under the wheel arch to get to the bolts.
so i already had the hoses off and the fluid drained.
-Remove the bolt to the dipstick
-remove the bolt clamping on the transmission oil pipes
-then the lower bolt on the inlet pipe which is just behind the where the transmission pipes clamp on
-then the two bolts that hold in the thermostat
-I was doing driver belts too so it was easier to move the alternator all the way in to give more room, to allow inlet pipe to wiggle out.
-Put the seal on and put thermostat in the engine (jiggle valve on top)
-pop the pipe on and put bolts in loosely first until all three are in place 2 at the top one at the bottom, then tighten to specified torques (or until that feels about right)
Put on the dipstick and transmission clamps/supports
put your hoses back on, refill
I put it the jiggle valve on the bottom so had to turn it, I managed that with just draining radiator fluid and not removing the hoses (which I guess ken some fluid in).
I can't say it was fun though.

I wish I had seen this yesterday :-0Originally posted by knw06 View PostI just did the head unit in my 2006 model , be sure to get the wiring looms, you'll need 2 the vehicle harness and the head unit harness or be prepared to strip and join all the fine wiring yourself. It's pretty straight forward once you have removed the trim as there are only 4 x 10mm bolts holding the unit in.
Just fitted a new Kenwood DXB5015DAB head unit.
There was already kind of generic harness for the Parrot I removed, so basically I tapped into that with lots of solder. It as nice as the wires were really clearly labelled - unlike the ones from the car.
I didn't think there was a kenwood to generic until afterwards and it would have all been easier
It doesn't seem to do the extras though
- reverse switch
- reverse camera
- parking/moving switch wire
I just soldered in extra wires to the existing Reverse Camera wires and then to ground, reverse switch for power, and shield/video onto an old yellow RCA - works perfectly too.
Worst / Most disappointing thing was that i didn't realise it was smaller until i came to fit it all back into the trim, ended up having to make a kind of backing plate to make it look nice and neat.

Tighened my handbrake up from the rear wheels and the nut under the center console. Much better now.

Removed my Air Cond Resistor as the 2 slower fan speeds had stopped working. Discovered rusted resistor. Do others recommend genuine Toyota part for this?
Thanks
FYI it was less than $50 from Toyota and really simple to change over...cool air again at all fan speed settings

Any tricks or comments about doing the thermostat? I heard they were a PIA to do.Originally posted by Plums View PostBig Weekend. Replaced the radiator, coolant, thermostat (that was a a dog), drive belts, oil/filter, air filter, complete replacement of trans fluid (dumped then flushed).
Was going to replace the radio/head unit - but the only I wanted was sold out - end of line.
I am thinking next on the list might be wheel bearings, but need to build up some motivation first
