The last tank in my M6 D4D went 10.4L/100kms. Did a mixture of around 60% city 30% HWY and 10% scrub bashing with ARB bar, Dual batteries, and lift. And I wasn't driving like a grandpa either. (All within speed limits of course)

how does the economy go with the D4D in stop start peak hour traffic in an auto (think M2 in Sydney)

I am regulary traveling in stop start traffic with the odd 10 kms hwy stint and my worst figures since ive had the diesel is 9.8 lts.

It does depend on how you drive as well, you have to remember your moving a lot of weight from a standing start and both diesel and petrol will quite happily drink what ever fuel your going to throw at it.

Its supprising how little throttle (at least in the diesel) it takes to move the prado smoothly off the line and up to cruising speed around town.and i dont hold anyone up either.

Interesting conversation. The best fuel consumption I have ever calculated for my D4D is a shade over 11L / 100km, that was mostly unloaded highway running in 6th . Never got anywhere near 10. Must be my lead foot I'm thinking.:?

Only filled it up with BP Ultimate Diesel so far, thats $1.62 at the BP near me just now. What brands do you you guys use??? Do you think the BP Ultimate is really worth it????

Everyone knows my thoughts on auto boxes. But that is off topic.....

once you feel that power of the v6.. the only thing the diesel has going for it is the economy.

that wasnt enough to outshine how refined and powerfull the v6 is.

            id buy one again anyday.

Late last year I traded my 04 V6 Prado for a D4D. I get about 30% more range with the D4D. Diesel costs have gone up a fair bit recently, but I mostly only ran PULP in the V6 so cost per litre was about the same. I still think I will be in front cost wise.

Performance wise, the D4D wont beat a V6 in a drag race, but it has a more torque and a very flat torque curve, so It pulls strongly from anywhere except above 3000 rpm. I think it develops more power than the V6 will under 3500rpm, after that the V6 romps away. You wont buy the D4D for drag racing, but dont think its slow, because it's quite deceptive. I really like how flexible the diesel engine is. It is not lacking on the highway and has no problems withovertaking.

If you are towing, the D4D is much better. Petrol was pretty good but not a patch on the D4D.

I do miss the outright accelaration of the Petrol on occassion, but its not often, and I'm glad I went with the D4D, its a great engine.

Just filled up the Prado yesterday for the second time.... I did 1,100 kms on 150 litres. Quite happy with that, its more economical than my STI

Just back from 4k trip south to Gold Coast via Carnarvon Gorge. Most of the road is 110 limit and the fuel consumption at this speed is around 14.5l/100k. Drops back under 13 in 100 zones. Overall average for trip was 13.5.

My next Prado which I'll order real soon will be the one I can get my hands on the earliest but I'd like to stay petrol as I do lots of highway work and the price of diesel is outrageous. But in the back of my mind I worry about resale of petrol in 3-4 years time.

                  Oh well, it's only money.

It must be time to brag,
I have just returned from our Easter Break, which was a Caravaning holiday at Bright & 4x4 in the high plains.
Was more than pleasantly surprised to do the entire trip on one tank full.
(1229 kls using 163 litres which works out at 13.35 per 100ks or 21.12 mpg)
Just to add to my pleasure the trip up & back with the caravan was mostly at highway speed 110kph, the return trip had the back of the Prado carrying approx 1 ton of firewood (I wasn't going to leave it behind after the hard work in getting it) & yes I would have been way overloaded?
"Big plus for the D4D it did so easily"

The four wheel drive outings were 50/50 low range.

That is the worst fuel consumption I have returned so far.
Even with the high price of Diesel I am still smiling

I must admit there were a few sleepless nights about petrol or diesel but am now convinced I made the correct decision particularly for the use I need the Prado for.

                    Cheers,

                      fuel consumption

                      Hi

just did a return trip to Denmark WA and back and ......so fuel consumption worked out at 9.17l/100kms which is OK I reckon...my truck is a 2004 GXL TD...the old motor.

No cruise control.....no leadfoot....some city driving included.

                        That sounds pretty good Muzza.

Im driving the same rig, and hoping it goes allright on my trip north next month towing the Jayco.

Cant wait to pay $2 litre. Fuel watch was $2:20 at Kumarina today, so will be planning to get past there.

Sounds like the petrol heads are getting good kms as well if they drive accordingly, correct tyre pressures etc etc
                        Cheers

Oh my Go...o...d, oh my Goooooooo.....d!!!!!

I have just gone past a petrol station, unfortunately with a full tank, where the advertised price for ULP was $1.18 and diesel priced at, wait for it......$1.17
I may never see this again in my lifetime. I was temped to turn around and take a pic but alas too quick and too busy.
