  • Cracked inner guard repair and reinforcement options?

Hey all, just got back from a big 5500km off-road trip and have the inevitable crack starting on the front drivers side guard. Just seeing what others have had done to fix this problem and if anyone knows where I can get the reinforcement kit from that features in some threads. I'm having real trouble finding any info on it now.

For the record it's a 2007 VX V6 with Dual Batts and am ARB Bar and Winch. I fitted it myself so the front mounts weren't tightened but the crack is back closer to the firewall, not near the body mounts yet.

Any advice would be really appreciated, Ben.

I have the actual part numbers for the pieces from Amayama at home (currently away). Toyota dealer had difficulty finding them after first denying they actually existed.

      Battery Brace

As a precaution I'm bracing up the battery.

This is the passenger side. I have a small 55ah battery on the driver's side but will make a brace for that too.

There are 4 pieces but Amayama could only supply 3: upper and lower for left side and upper for right side.

whats the kit worth these days?

I noticed after taking a big accidental nosedive that definitely bottomed out on the bump stops I have paint cracking in the inner passenger guard area, looks like the metal got stressed and moved causing the paint to crack. No crack in the metal that I could see.

                        53731-60070 is still unavailable.

They have to search under US parts or Toyota won't always find them.

Wow, thanks for the replies guys. Looks like I'm going to have to start digging deep. Will try a few local panel beaters to see if anyone seems confident in the job to re-inforce the rest of the panels but i can see it becoming really expensive without those panels. I would like to find a supplier and bring a few sets over to help other people out if i can. Just wish they were sold in English speaker countries, might try a mate in the US 4x4 scene.

For your info, I bought the kit ages ago and have yet to get around to fit it. After I discovered my left inner fender crack, I had it welded by a panel beater. They did a pretty simple job with the TIG welder and even sprayed on some paint so you can barely see it. Following the repair I undertook the Tassie GTG, travelling nearly 12,000km during the process and the crack repair has held up. In the next few weeks I'm planning on installing the plates as well as removing and repainting the ARB bar. Additional to the plates are nuts and bolts, about 54 of them I think. I'm just going to use stainless ones sourced locally.

Ah yeah. I'll just get the bolts locally or maybe weld them on.

I've got a Perth/US based 4x4 import company trying to track the panels down at the moment, if we can locate them we should be able to make them available in Aus for anyone else with cracks or who wants to put them in for peace of mind, fingers crossed.
