  • Water on floor of vehicle after rainfall

    Hello,

Our 2009 Prado TZ is parked outside.

After heavy rainfall, the floor of the vehicle(both driver and passenger sides) is soaking wet.

The vehicle does have a sunroof. There are no water marks on the roof or side. No windows have been left open.

Does anyone know why there is literally inches of water on the floor and how to fix it?

Do you have a roof rack?

Either roof rack holes, or has it had a replacement windscreen?

If windscreen has been replaced check that there is sealant in the underneath part of rubber at top of windscreen.
That was a problem I had years ago with an 80 series.

I had the same problem with two mazda tributes both had sunroofs.
There was a gutter that collected water that made its way naturally past the rubber, especially as it hardens with age, that would lead to a drainage tube on each side. These tubes can become blocked with debris which may contrubute to damage or maybe even age can cause leakage into the body where the drain tubes run.
In my case water was coming out from behind the plastic on the door side of the driver and passenger side footwell. Completely different model i know but was frustrating to try to diagnose the source of the leak. Ended up confirming it by duct taping the sunroof rubber seals which stopped the issue. I didn't end up getting it fixed so cant help you there but guessing it would be a but of a pain to replace the drain system, worse case maybe seal your sunroof? Good luck

Any aftermarket wiring been put through the grommets on the firewall? UHF etc. Might need to grab a light & awkwardly lay under the dash with car closed up & get someone to hose it down all over....starting from the lowest point & working their way up.

Hello, just returning from an extended trip away. Yes, the vehicle has original Toyota Roof rails. It also has a Rhino Rack platform attached to the roof rails. As far as I can tell, no aftermarket wiring. Still attempting to figure this out. I would like to remove the roof rails(the videos on PP are not working) so if anyone can assist me with instructions on how to do that(without breaking them) I would appreciate it. Also, I will try both blowing and vacuuming the drainage holes. Thanks.

Racks or the windscreen as mentioned above seem like the obvious answer. I'd pull back the carpet and then run the hose around the windscreen and also roof rack mounts to try and nail down where the water is coming from. Did you notice if any of the seat belts were wet too, as the mounts are normally above the seat belts, which get wet first before trickling down.

When I fitted our ARB Roof Cage, we had wet seat belts in the front. It turned out that the roof rail bolts need silicone in their locators, to seal up the gaps, and prevent water coming into the cabin. I would bet this is your issue, given I saw another post about you fitting roof rails recently.

check the drainage around yr aircon intake vents below yr windscreen. Water may be coming in thru yr aircon inlets.
