    OME suspension

    hi Jeff,

i did, that is why I think something is unusual because i only got 25mm increase on the front (from 750mm to 775mm) whereas Chippy raised up to 820mm with his OME lift.

a mate of mine went up to 810mm on front with the N140S struts and OME884 springs which is basically same set-up as Phil, which is why I'm keen to see what measurements he got.

Maybe i should have went the firmer OME884 springs to get the increased clearance.

      Hiya Brendan

Old original equipment suspension, add a Sovereign bar and dual battery, drag a camper trailer around Oz, and the ride height on the front had sagged to 690 mm.

I went the 884's for the lift ... as any thoughts of a winch cradle and winch were years away (Oh, the best laid plans ops: ) and gained 5 inches of lift    The 820 mm eventaully settled to about 805 mm over the next few weeks (including a long weekend run up around the Holland Track).

Then I was was offered a Warn XD 9000 winch at a price that I couldn't refuse, and my missus went and bought me the cradle, then the bro-in-law offered to give me a hand to fit it ..... and all of a sudden I'm looking at needing to go to the 885's

Still rides fine .... just seems a little soft in some situations .. due to the added weight .. and I've lost about another 20 mm ... which I would like back.

At the time the ARB guy reckoned that the 883's were probably a tad too light for the alloy bar and dual bat. combination. He recommended the 884's and was spot on. Mind you ... he also recommended that if I was to ever add a winch I would need to look at the 885's ... seem he was right again.

      Cheers

What did you end up getting fitted? How do you like it?

        I've been quoted - front 884/140S, rear 895/142.

          ome suspension

          Hi blkmav90

I ended up with OME 884/N140s & 895/N141 Done just over 7,000k,s now & its working a treat, i would like a bit more clearance thou, i still bottom out a bit & have done slight damage to side rails & fuel tank bash plate, but she rides great on & off road, a bit firmer than the OE suspension. Cost was $1235 fitted with wheel alignment.

that's a great motto Darren. Wish ARB had the same. I wasn't happy with only 25mm lift on the front end after i specifically asked for a 2" lift kit, so they charged me another $300 to change my front springs over to 884's.

Finally got my 2" lift, but could have bought the Bilstein package for same price in the end. hindsight is a wonderful thing.

                    • OME 25mm vs 50mm???

OK Now I'm very confused. I've read through the post (all 8 pages! - nice work fellahs) and I see that most people have ended up with a 50mm lift. I was going to do the suspension 12months ago but the wife got a kitchen instead (well a blokes got to eat heh!) and at the time ARB told me 50mm lift = no worries. BUT, I dropped in to Hendra last Friday and the boys tell me it's now a 25mm lift at the front and 38mm at the back. Young bloke showed me the catalouge and there it is in black and white. I asked what the problem was but didn't get any sort of answer other then "that is what the engineers are recomending". Which is fair enough but why?

Second thing I've noticed is some of the prices qouted in the thread have had me checking the dates as the best OME qoute I've come up with is $1650 fitted including wheel alignment. Seems a lot dearer then some of your qoutes.

Oh, I also e-mailed King springs and their tech boys tell me that their springs will give me, wait for it, a 25mm lift !!!
Does anyone know what the story is re 25 vs 50mm lift?

                      Yours in total confusion,

                      Mark

                      • The heights they qoute are the minimum you'll get (it all depends on extra weight you are trying to support)

When you looked in the cataloge it would have read something like:

(Example only, don't qoute the numbers)

                        OME 885, 25mm lift, 75-100kg

So.. OME 885 will give you 25mm lift with 100kg extra up front.

There's more to it than "2 inch lift thanks mate" all cars are different as we all have different mixes of accessories.

                        • My OME paperwork talked about a 20-40mm lift, in the end it was 50mm (measured).

                          • Yeh, I get that thanks MickL. However, my car hasn't changed from the first time I got a quote (50mm lift) in Sept 06 to now (25mm lift) and it is for the same springs and shocks both times. Now, I didn't see the listing in 06 so it might very well have listed the standard ome springs as being a 25mm lift which will be fine (and if anyone can confirm that either way I would really apreciate it). I just want to know before I spend the dollars.

                            cheers,

                            • OME probably now quote 25mm lift as they know the kit will sag down from 50mm in a year or so.

                              • Mark,

What I was trying to get across is that despite people selling 2" (or what ever height) lift kits it's not as simple as that. Springs that give 50mm lift in your Prado may only give 30mm in mine. You need to take into account the weight of accessories you have fitted.

Try speaking to the guys installing suspension, not the knobs at the sales counter who just quote figures out of sales brochures.

Also read through the suspension height thread where you can see what lift others have got with various different accessories fitted.
