I had been keeping an eye on this thread hoping you might get a good resolution. For the cost of a set of springs, which are relatively cheap, I can't understand why they don't just get a new set for you, then explain any conditions they have on the install, ride height etc.
I wouldn't be too worried about the packer, I had to use them in my Patrol at various times (I tried 6 different sets of springs before I was semi happy)to even things up, and you wouldn't even know they are there and soon forget about them.
For piece of mind though, I'd be inclined to take up Jason's offer of a set of Kings at cost and try them out. You can fit them at home in about an hour, pretty easy job to do.
