I personally would go for a Platform instead of a Tray. I have seen a few people wanting to swap from a tray to a platform. I find that there's no real benefit to a tray and besides, the tray adds weight which decreases the payload.
    Thanks for the quick reply.
I like the look of the tray when its unloaded over the platform....but with so many attachments that go with the pioneer system you can put anything on the platform.

Yeah, for a price. I think some of the attachments while handy, are pretty expensive for what they consist of.

Hey Will _ ANOTHER LOUD SHOUT for the 1928mm platform back bone- I am glad I read this thread as I almost presumed the current back bone would fit... I will wait until it is on the market in a month or 2.... good looking product so kudos to you... and great news with the increase of 20kg- that certainly make it more sell-able to me anyway..

Is there such an accessory for the platform that enables you to chuck a tinny up top? I know there are the rhino boat loaders but as I would maybe use this once or twice a year I would be more interested in having the platform with a bolt on thing maybe with a roller on it that increases the width- if you know what I mean?!?

          Cheers - Winta

This isn't correct. Toyota specifies the roof load/capacity at 100kg. This limit includes whatever roof rack you mount onto the roof. The Backbone looks heavier than the 6 plastic legs that it replaces so I would estimate that installing the Backbone system actually reduces the payload you can carry on the Platform itself.

What is the weight of your tinny? In order to reduce weight, I would go with the Toyota 3 bar heavy duty crossbar set if all you will be carrying is the tinny. Then swap it out with the Platform for other uses. If you retained the 6 legs, it would be quite easy to swap between the platform and the 3 HD crossbars. It is slightly more difficult with the Backbone.

I've been following this thread with interest. I'm looking to upgrade my suspension in a few months and was worried I wouldn't fit the car in the garage anymore as it's already quite close. For the record I've go the 150 series with the Pioneer platform on the factory rails. My thinking was the backbone would lower the platform as much as the lift would raise it..

I've just spoken with one of the suppliers who says these are not available and there's no knowing when they will be back in stock. Are they still being made? Does anyone have any info or is it just a case of not enough stock?

              Cheers

                    Hey Guys,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to a lot of you

@trsmith, they are on their way, I can promise you that. Should be arriving in our warehouse in less than a month.

@mrwinta - Production will go ahead for the next lot to allow for fitment of the 1928mm trays. Not certain on delivery date however. A quick release boatloader is certainly a cool idea, and something that has been discussed. I can't tell you much more than that unfortuntely. Similar to what @amts has said, you could go down the route of the RLT600 legs on the track. This will allow quick release of the tray, and then you can have your bars set up with your boat loader and you can then clip that back into the leg bases. Check out the RLT600 legs HERE

@troyvis - If you'd like to check the height comparison, with a backbone and pioneer, the top of the pioneer is approx 80mm from the highest point of the roof.

@amts - Your concern over the 100kg roof limit has definitely grabbed my attention, I'll have to do a bit of digging and find out how we've come up with different figures there. I'll get back to you all.

Hi Will, hope you have a heap of them coming, I also ordered and paid in full, back in January... Don't want to be forgotten about, and miss out!.. We have a rather big trip planned, 5 weeks and 8000km, leaving in August, so we need it, as its part of our preparation, and are depending on it!! If you can keep us all up to date, with when they are going to be distributed to your retailers, would be greatly appreciated.. Cheers Odog

Has anyone had an update from their local dealers on expected availability?

I have mine on order at AutoExtra in Perth who were expecting it "sometime in May or June".
