Please bear with me as I'm sure the answers are obvious, but I want to be sure before installing the cooler this weekend.
Having looked at the radiator these appear to be the two transmission cooler hoses.
3rd photo bottom (inlet?) the hose has a red stripe
2nd photo top (outlet?) the hose has a blue stripe.
I assume that the transmission fluid level check is the allen head bolt with check stamped on it at the bottom right of the 1st photo?
Is the 24mm hex bolt in the 4th photo at the back of the transmission/transfer case the correct transmission filling point?
Are there any special tricks to topping up the transmission?
Thanks in advanceLast edited by krypto; 07-09-2012, 12:23 PM.Steve

The fill plug is on the drivers side of the gear box. The 4th photo is purely for filling the transfer case, NOT the gearbox.
The fill plug will have "WS" cast into the head. It's 24mm as well.
There's a how to fill guide somewhere on the forum. If you can't find it, google toyota A750 fluid level.
Did you buy 1L or 4L of fluid? If you bought a litre, add all of it, close the filler plug and follow the level checking instructions.2019 GXL, Bullbar, UHF, Redarc Brake Controller, Tow Bar, Secondary Fuel Filter

Here ya go check out mine.

Here is a couple of picture of the tran fill, drain and check plugs.
Just take the feed to the oil cooler from the top hose less chance of hose joins rubbing on
the radiator/intercooler hoses the temperature difference is very minor.
Once you have it all buttoned up Start the car and run it through the gears P to 1 (stationary).
Put the transmission into neutral with the hand brake on. Slide back under the car and top up the trans until it dripples out of the check port.

Just go and buy an Alemite 20l drum pump they will fit down a 5lt bottle neck or you could buy an alemite 1lt pump bottle.2011 VX T/D auto pearl white, 3" exhaust and CHIP IT module and Auber EGT gauge. Here's some pictures of my transmission cooler. Just need to figure out how to read the transmission temp so that I can top it up.
Used a PWR Oil Cooler kit PWO5361 which is 280x255x19 and just fits in. I needed an extra 1.5m of hose and I bought a roll of corrugated tubing to protect the hose. It was a bit of a headache finding a way to run the hose so that it doesn't rub on anything.
Used about 1.2l of Toyota WS fluid to top up the transmission. Best to overfill once and then use the check plug to set the right level.
The pictures also show some European style horns that I got for $33 off fleabay to replace the standard squeakers.Last edited by krypto; 17-09-2012, 09:00 PM.Steve

Looks good.
What do you mean "Just need to figure out how to read the transmission temp so that I can top it up." ?

Thanks Sean.
The manual for the transmission says that it must be between 46°-56° when you check the level. Toyota told me the same.Last edited by krypto; 16-09-2012, 09:47 PM.Steve

Only minute differences in oil expansion between 30/40 degree. Just run it throught the gears a couple of times. Alternatively use a heat gun on the sump or the old hold your palm on the sump/roundabout test.
Both of these are overkill, just check it when it is cold, the rise in level when hot won't make it overfull.

Problem solved, went and bought a Infrared Thermometer Gun for $39 from SCA. Point it at the sump which seems to be the logical place to measure transmission temp.
I had the transmission checked by Toyota 12 months ago and before doing anything when I removed the check plug the transmission was definitely over full as the oil poured out. I also had a talk with a local transmission specialist who was very helpful and he doesn't pay much attention to temp. He said he tends to overfill to avoid transmission oil starvation.
Interesting using the gun I was surprised how quickly the transmission gets to 50° even with the cooler fitted. Also interesting measuring the actual temps pointing at the various hoses in and out of coolersLast edited by krypto; 17-09-2012, 02:48 PM.Steve

Yeah, you'd be surprised at how how hot the TFT gets while you're driving also! I've recently fitted a Scangauge II and regularly see temps above 100 degrees (and as high as 125 degrees). Those temps are with no extra payload, driving around suburban streets or uphill. Average cruise temp is 85-90 degrees.

I checked the sump with the thermometer a few times and didn't get over 55° with city driving. Strange was that checking the hose temps there was a couple of degree rise across the radiator.
I wonder where the scan gauge gets its reading from?Last edited by krypto; 17-09-2012, 09:38 PM.Steve
