    Isn't it funny that different stealerships do different things,

    I had mine replaced @ the 10k Service by the dealer, i mentioned a clunking sound when i dropped it off, that arvo they rang me to say they have a new replacement tail shaft coming overnight, can i leave the car there...

    All in all was impressed as I was half expecting the run around...

    Keep on them as its crap that toyota dealers do not replace the tail shafts...

      About to call Toyota again. Maybe I should make it a daily routine for a while - call Toyota then call dealer. See who gives in first - Toyota, dealer or me.

      • I had the tailshaft greased while the 150 was in getting new mudflaps fitted yesterday. I haven't driven it yet myself as hubby picked it up so can't tell if it's helped or not, problem was intermittent to begin with.

        • fido it won't fix it as discussed previously, it will go for a while then return. You will need to have it changed to fix it permanently.

            And tell them to read this thread (print it out for them) and explain to you WHY other dealerships replace the shaft and they don't. Also time to name and shame I'm afraid..........

            • Dealer is Torque Toyota at Strathpine.
              Had not received a call from Toyota or dealer on Tuesday (gave them 24-hours) so called Toyota. Person handling my call was not available at the time and called back a couple of hours later. They had contacted dealer and asked me to talk to service manager when I drop Prado off for service Monday.

              Same dealer stuffed me around with mud flap replacement so should have know better. Maybe Sci Fleet Kedron on mjrandom recommendation.

              • Today was 60K service and quick chat with service manager about tail shaft. Not happy when I left dealer this morning.
                Good news this afternoon - tail shaft on order and car booked in to have it installed.

                Will send an update once I have a few km on the replacement tailshaft.

                • Nice work Peter persistance has prevailed. You won't have a problem with the new shaft, I have clocked up approx 30,000 and not a clunk to be felt!

                  • My experience is the same as for Riv39. Don't give up with the pressure if you have this issue. The replacement shaft fixes the problem but Toyota only act if you keep on complaining

                    • Just picked mine up after 60k service and after complaining about clunk at every service (2 states and 3 dealers) they have finally gone to Toyota to replace as a warranty claim, so still not replaced but getting closer.

                      • MIne is due for it's next service in February and has already had an interim re-grease. I complained about the clunk prior to the factory warranty running out so hopefully that will cover me for a future claim. It's only done ~43K but has had the 50K service as per Toyota's 6 monthly servicing regime, this was prior to me purchasing it though.

                          I'm doing battle with Toyota on this issue......and getting nowhere.
                          The local service centre in Sydney claims no knowledge. I picked my car up today after 60k service and yet again they have just regreased. I lost the plot with the guy who simply told they have checked and "no known issue" and that I shouldn't trust the internet" Spoke with service manager and he's going to call Toyota again.
                          My question is - is there a Toyota reference number or similar that I can refer to??

                          Interestingly they have agreed to replace the mudflaps and respray under warranty without even the slightest resistance. In fact the Service manager said he has no issue replacing the propeller shaft if Toyota agree as he gets paid to do it.
                          I just need something to help this guy get through the Toyota minefield.

                              Chatswood.
                              After going nuts yesterday and getting pretty fired up with them.....today I got a call. "We have spoken to toyota again and explained the situation and they have agreed to replace it....now on order and we'll call you when it's in stock"
                              Incredible - but the service guy I usually see told me today he had never heard of the replacement - I'm inclined to believe him as he had absolutely no hesitation in doing the mudflap replacment and rear end respray all at toyota's cost. It seems that with the mudflaps Toyota sent out a notice to all dealers......but I suspect they have not done the same with the propeller shaft and unless the actual service centre screams then nothing happens.
                              Anyway - will wait to see if "clunk" finally gets sorted.

                              • Clunk stopping and starting

                                Had the clunk greased with special grease at the 10,000klm service and it went away, great after that. Now at 38,500klms it's back, will see how I go at the 40,000klm service when I say its the worst it's ever been, still a great machine!. Thanks for the info. 4D4 auto 2011
