  • OK, I have raised the issue of my tailshaft clunk again and quoted TNF 59/11. I'm told there is a newer bulletin which supersedes this one and talks about re-greasing only however the service manager at my local dealer has sent my case off to Toyota for a ruling. I'm not holding my breath since the Prado is now out of new car warranty however I have reminded them that the issue was raised twice while it was still in the factory warranty. So fingers crossed I'll get somewhere this time!

Hi Fido, make sure you quote the new tail prop shaft part no. Check my posts earlier. This was replaced in the past 4 weeks.
      Having a lend I say.

I'm sure they know the part no. as they have replaced them in the past. Earlier on in the piece they tried to tell me that the problem came back after replacing the shaft so now they just grease them. This time I'm putting my foot down.

Sorry Jayden, I forgot to ask what year your 150 is. While I was on the phone to him the service manager said something about the newer bulletin telling them to stop replacing tailshafts after a certain production date but he didn't give me any more detail on that.

You better believe it! I've given them enough leeway already on this issue, time to stop mucking around.

Yeah mine is Oct 2012. Had done 20,000 km when it was replaced. I complained a lot before that!

Yes I recall you posting that a few months ago. Did they try and steer you down the "new special greasing procedure" route first? By rights you shouldn't have had to pay for the labour either as it was a known issue within the warranty period. I get it though, you just wanted the problem fixed.

The fact they are still replacing shafts even on late model 150s tells me the spin I've been given is a croc, otherwise Toyota would be denying those claims too.

                      • Mine has just started to play up again. Was greased around 4k kms ago. Will add it to the list of things for them to look at at next service.

                        • My April 2012 build had the tail shaft replaced under warranty two months ago. They tried greasing it first with no luck.

                              • Success! New tailshaft on its way. Toyota have agreed to pay for the parts but not the labour, looks like the dealer is going to cover that though.
