My engine chipping experience so far

If I recall correctly, MLC with his chipped engine still needed Maxtrax to make it over the biggest dune towing his camper, seems my unchipped Prado also towing a trailer made it over no problems, oh and Rev, didn't you have an issue trying to follow me in your chipped Prado, had to back down and take the chicken track, sound familiar. I guess it's the driver that makes the difference, not the chip

Thanks Dave, now everybody knows it was you
. I was only remembering how well my chip went on the border track, the whole trip actually.

By the way Dave, one of those hills I referred to where I got up with trailer in tow was apparently too hard for a 150 driver!. Now some say it is skill, but I maintain the chip played a big part in my 120 with trailer in tow making it where the 150 with no trailer, no passengers and only half the gear and an amateur driver full of non believable excuses failed. mlc - keeping it real.
Hey mlc, this hill was it on the border track during the 2012 GTG?

I know myself I was in amazement when you spun all 4 wheels after the install, and had to come back and change your jocks! But as you say, the Prado has an ECU which is built the same(for not so eductated, I would assume a 120 is the same in all D4D 120 series, and there may be some tweaks for the 150 series, but in general they ar ethe same, so why is it that all these people are experiencing issues with the Chip-it chip? I am also amazed, that is seems only to be Chip-it who it coping flack, if as he points out, all other(Roo Systems, TunIt and DP) work the same. Do these chips cause the same issues we are hearing here??? Maybe we need to hear of issues relating to those other brands of chips. Only my view

I have tried not to get involved in the rights of members of PP to have their say on the Chip It product. I feel for those that have had the experience from hell with matters remaining unresolved for a long period. The occasional cowboys or respected members that through their two cents in too have every right to do so too, whether promoting another chip or just supporting those they know.
It is no secret that I support the Chip It chip, so for any newer members reading this, you are now warned. To complete the picture, I have, before the corporate member changes, organised discounts for PP members on this forum, I have never met Robert, but I have met the owners.
Despite the negativity that has swelled on this forum re Chip It, there is always two sides to every story and I would like to tell my side. Apologies if it bores the shite out of you, but fair is fair.
1. People I know personally on this forum have had their fair of crap and problems with other chip brands. It's up to them whether they chose a public forum to whinge about it. They don't live the name and shame" motto so probably won't. Lets put this into perspective, we all have problems with products from time to time, even other brands of Chips. (not red rock deli chips though, they are made in heaven)
2. My chip, installed by an un-named installer in SA originally had issues. They were resolved. Chip It made sure they did everything they could from their end!
3. I was in WA a few years back and the owner, while on annual leave over Christmas opened up his workshop and spent a few hours customising my tune because I was there for only a few days. The cost, zip, nil, nothing. He also made some adjustments to another customers rig at the same time. Bloody good effort and more than most would do. He took his time to understand what I wanted from the chip and then connected up the machinery and kept fine tuning. His passion for his product and knowledge of the Prado problems were impressive. You see, while the D4D is the same in the Hilux and Prado, the ECU (I think) is not. They were investing in rectifying and researching what the hell was causing grief on some vehicles.
My professional needs me to understand people and pick the dodgies from the real McCoys. I see a lot of Dodgies in what I do and its a no brainer, these guys are more focussed on the product than the resulting incomes. They have a genuine passion for their product which I have no doubt will be confirmed by anyone that has met them in person.
I am very happy with my chip, its performance is unbelievable. As an educated adult I am under no delusion that ANY chip will shorten the life of our motors. You cannot expect anything else when you are demanding more from a motor than the manufacturer is prepared to give you as standard, save maybe for a Toyota approved chip that is not available in Australia.
Finally, as I say every time anyone asks about my chip, it causes un-burnt fuel, it blows smoke, but I know this and its a small price to pay for the benefit it provides me when towing a heavy trailer up a sand hill that other vehicles don't getup without the trailer, or overtaking a road train up a hill while towing a trailer with ease.
Mlc.

Roo, TunIt, DP all use the very same rebadged product.
if you include Rapid and Steinbuayer they are all fuel only Chips.

Hi Chiaras2.
I totally agree Chip It have had their run of faults on Prado. Where they thought the problem was licked, it wasn't. Customer feedback was needed since the vehicles they had in Perth to test were not exibihibting the problem.
When I said I have not heard of the Chip failing injectors "For the record: We have NEVER had an injector failure, never had a customer ring to tell us one has failed. Never had any issues with anything associated with noisy injectors." I mean that the Chips are not causing this.
To date, I have applied the Chip It fix for the Prado to 3 problematic cars and so far (after 2 weeks) they seem good. No more engine warning light issues.
I would call Chip It in Perth and explain the issues you are having and get them to sort out the fix. Its not what a product is meant to do by any stretch of the imagination.
BTW, about the guys in Brookvale. We did have many complaints about workmanship and I passed this on to Chip It. Chip It then removed from from the dealer list. Simple things were not being done and I got to fix 2 customers cars just by running the correct tunes.

Guest repliedChiaras2.
I would suggest you should be doing your dealings with chip itOFF FORUM..
It is not smart to be doing things publicly, as again defamation is a big word in this day and age with what you write in the public forum..
Perhaps an update to your first thread you created if your sure of the issues you have been suffering now. As that one is certainly unfinished..

Also, it doesn't explain why Toyota injectors are noisy from factory and why Toyota are changing them out and the noise abates with that change.
Some Toyota injectors seem to have an inherent fault and Toyota have admitted such. Note that we don't see this around the board on all other vehicles either.
For the record: We have NEVER had an injector failure, never had a customer ring to tell us one has failed. Never had any issues with anything associated with noisy injectors.
Also for the record, I think the product DM is marketing is pretty good. A bit over kill for the great majority as some functions are not used (ie crank angle, MAF adjustment) and not always plug and plug and a pricey ... but all in all, a good unit.
They beat us to market with crank angle and MAF, but we will come out with Rail and Injector Style Chip with touch screen and EGT Control soon. Yep, that too wont be a low cost item either but does have Rail and Injector adjusted, in cabin touch screen, and EGT as standard. Not for the faint hearted.
Yes you have Rob, I did, you know the probs I have had with my 120 Prado, every mechanic, technician, engineer I have spoken with has described a chip it chip and a Dp chip as a very expensive excercise. I really have not been happy with it, it has caused me that much grief it's not funny.
A mate of mine works for Toyota and he has got me MOST of the repairs to my engine, injectors under my Toyota EXTENDED care warranty. Lucky I had this otherwise I would be up SH..creek. I have been towed 500 plus km by Norma roadside ruining my family holiday. Sorry Rob but enough is enough, I cannot keep calling chip it, I'm over it, your a gentleman with all your help, but mate I have spent over $90,000 on my truck and as I said to you when I bought the chip, I don't care how much it costs, I just need more power with no problems. But I got nothing but issues from the day it was installed by Mitchell Bros Brookvale that I owe a huge apology to. I thought it was them not knowing what they were doing, but it has been the chip, stuffing my engine.
Mate I know this sounds harsh, but I need resolution.

chiaras2, mate my advice would be, I'd be getting my $$$ back and either leaving it alone or put a Steinbourer in it. All these problems from a chip would piss me write off big time. I like my car to be reliable not wondering if, or at what point, am I going to break down again (limp mode)......Doesn't answer your question I know just my thoughts........Cheers Steve
