Is anyone getting the 1500rpm rattle issue with late 2011 to 2012 model prados?. Has this issue been addressed by factory. I have had my altitute for a little under 2 weeks. Im getting this annoying rattle between 1500-1800. I thought this was normal for the diesel but the sound does come and go.

Don't think anything has changed and yes it does sound like the dreaded rattle.

At least it's very easy to fix or you can spend some effort trying to get toyota to fix it.

I was driving my Prado in ‘S’ mode around to avoid the vibration at 1500rpm and avoid the flat spots particularly noticeable at roundabouts, anything under 80kmh or with a rise and it was in ‘S4’. The D4D has been getting smoother as the k’s come up and at the 30K service I had the shift pattern upgrade done. Now it is the vehicle it should always have been, I can use ‘Auto’ in any driving conditions without flat spots and WITHOUT 1500RPM VIBRATION. Insert a Toyota jubilation jump in the air here. Either it gets smoother as it is run in or I have sucked enough dirt into the guard to put a layer on the offending surface. Either way, I’m happy.

Im assuming that my rattle is not from my injector that others are complaining about. Will get toyota to check it out on the 1000k service/check up.

I got it from alberts in myaree for $40 and don't forget to get some of those plugs from Toyota.

I think there is some equivalent stuff on Ebay.

Just performed this DIY on my old mans Kakadu, and so far it sounds good! the ultimate test will be cold start drive and highway cruising.

Just picked up the Altitude from its first service, spoke to the service dude about the 1500rpm drone, got it back no drone. They apparently push the inner guard out a few mm to stop the air box pipe rubbing on the inner guard, and it worked.

I have a jan 12 built Kakadu and can confirm no such issues on my end, car going great.

                    Cheers,

I can confirm the snorkel (TJM) as a fix. Mine was bad at 80kph - even the kids commented. Snorkel fitted today and the Prado purrs - what a difference.

I bought 2010 Kakadu with 26000km on the clock.
Bit by bit I discovered vibration, rattles and drones, most around the 1500rpm, regardless of the engine temperature.

This issue makes that the car feels a lot more used than its young age of 20 months and the low kilometer suggest.

This is my 4th diesel car but I never had this sort of feeling / 'vibes', which is actually quite annoying given a top of the range vehicle. Other than that it's a fantastic car.

Having read this thread it seems that I'm suffering from the same problem caused by a poor design.

Annoying, but it really is a cheap easy fix that will change your car. Sounds like a few dealers are doing it now.

And you DO NOT need to fit a snorkel to fix it.
