  • Scangauge X-Gauge Codes for Jul 21+ Models

    Hi All,

I have been researching online and playing around creating Scangauge X-Gauge codes for my Nov 2021 VX Prado and thought I would share. Here is what I have found so far (works with AU Software Version: 4.52AU but may also be OK for anything from 4.22 on).

Edit: The info in this thread although titled Jul 21+ should work an all 150KW Euro 5 1GD-FTV engines fitted to the Prado/Hilux/Fortuner. The list in the table below has been updated and added to a couple of times further down so if after latest list go to end of thread and work back until you find what your after. If its not there or you find errors please comment and I will fix or try to see if I can work out any missing items.

As an add on to my last post. You can actively monitor any of the standard scangauge trip computer entries using an x-gauge (It is detailed in the user manual but may not be very widely known). The table below shows the values to enter for each type of trip entry.

Keen to know if anyone out there knows what the undocumented Special RXF Values in the new transmission x-gauges mean ie.. the C in the first offset and 3 in third offset values (C462051A36AA). As there is no reference to them being valid in any of the online resources and any other standard value stops the gauges from working.. I have seen on similar gauges for other vehicle makes they use a 7 instead of the 3 which is also undocumented??. They appear to be linked to the use of Unified Diagnostic Service (UDS) Service 22 (Request Data by Identifier) to gain access to the gearbox information and in our case the reply data ID does not match the sent value but is being recognised by the scangauge by adding the C and 3??

I think I just cracked the DPF% and REGEN status for the Jul 21+ but still need testing to confirm and find out which bit/s set when regen goes active - anyone else like to test and provide feedback on what you get at start and end of regen for both

            PM Accumulation Ratio Bank 1 0700221105 046205110605 3008 000200010000 STL % (edit - checked and working)
REGEN Status 070022119B 04620511069B 3008 000100010000 RGN 0 = Off - ? = REGEN active (edit: after testing this only shows Manual Regen Status so not much use as same info on center display as Manual Regen available/in progress/complete).

Tested on TorquePro app and dpf level works, will let you know when regen starts if the regen status works.

I believe we have also cracked the new manual burn command for the 150kw Hilux/Prado/Fortuner using Scangauge or Torque Pro (as per previous version use this at your own risk but we have confirmed in works on at least 2 vehicles and is a valid OBD Mode 8 code in the latest standards that Toyota seems to have enabled so could work on other models).

                For Scangauge:

You need to save a custom command in one of the memory locations as per the Scangauge manual (default is 0) - enter in the command line 0802 (no extra zeros after) and save. Before sending the command make sure you have all the prerequisites to do a manual burn as per the Toyota DPF Handbook and as a suggestion with DPF% above 25%. With the engine idling select the saved Command and press SEND. The DPF bar graph will go to 4 bars, the DPF Manual Regen in progress message will appear in the centre display and the engine should increase revs. You can cancel by pressing the accelerator but as the STL % has been set to 100% it will do an auto regen soon after you start driving. So you can start a manual burn and then drive off and it will continue soon after as an auto burn.

                For Torque Pro:

Set up a Custom Command Button as described in Torque forums but use the command 08 02 (ensuring you have a space between the numbers). Pressing the button should initiate the process same as for scangauge above.

A couple of interesting things out of this. Physical address of main ECU is now 700, and they are using service mode $22 now instead of $21 with 2-byte identifiers, but yet still some old controllers using $21.

I do have a question, with your RXF modifiers, what does the "C" do? I've not come across that one before. And what firmware is your SGII?

Also, with handling multi frame packets, the RXF 05xx06xx0000 is picking up the first frame, RXF 032100000000 is what is picking up the second frame, and it might be likely an RXF 032200000000 will pick up the third frame (if SGII) supports this much data flow. When you use an RXF of 04xx05xx0000 it means all the data is in one frame.

SGII isn't really user friendly as it doesn't quite tell the truth about packets when transmitting and filtering. Earlier firmware versions didn't even support multi packet messages.

                    Hi Spencer,

The new Engine/Transmission ECU using mode 22 commands and addressing is complying to the Unified Diagnostic Service (UDS) standard. This link gives a good overview UDS Explained - A Simple Intro (Unified Diagnostic Services) – CSS Electronics. From reading I think all new vehicles will need to adopt this standard by 2026. You can see the difference from the old Mode 21 which causes the need for different offsets in the RXF single and multi-frame messages.

I also asked about the special RXF modifier C in position 1 as well as 3 and 7 in position 3 which are not listed in any published info/guides for creating X-Gauge codes. My guess is it is used to mask actual addressing due to IP or other restrictions imposed on scangauge by OEMs. You can see examples in the new Trans temp codes listed above where there is the scangauge C masked version and the actual address. This is also backed up by the fact that that you can access all sensor codes in the Scangauge 3 auto search they but do not provide any form of access to the actual code being used.

My Scangauge 2 is using Software Version: 4.52AU which I believe is still the latest in AU.

                        Next Instalment for those interested.

These should theoretically all work but do need the MTH formulas to be confirmed so if anyone wants to try them out and compare results to a scantool or techstream and let me know which work OK and those than need rework it would be great.

Just a small update, but as the subject of when and if fuel is being transferred from the Sub-Tank to Main-Tank correctly has been topical recently I decided to see if I could find the PID for the In-Tank Pump ON/OFF and yep I think sorted for the 150kw 1GD at least (won't work on earlier models).

With this and the Sub and Main Tank Fuel level codes in theory you should be able to see:
                          • When the pump turns on and see the sub-tank level drop and corresponding main-tank increase (if any as main should not start emptying until sub is at zero so only engine return fuel to transfer every now and then from that point).
                          • If the rear filter is restricted or blocked you will see the pump come on but the sub-tank level will remain steady or increase and the main tank level will continue to drop as you use fuel.
The tank codes are in the lists above but I have included here so they are all together.

Note that even though the 150 Prado Sub-Tank is 63L and Main 87L the gauge readings are set to max out at (from memory) 59L and 83L so do not drop straight away after refueling to full.

                          Main Fuel Tank Level 07C02129 046185290000 2808 000500010000 MFT L

Hope this is useful to someone :-)

Definitely useful, and thanks for all the effort put into this. I know the time spent is not trivial.
My tank readings maxed out at 83.5 and 56.5 litres with fuel sitting in the filler.
FWIW, fuel return is to the MAIN tank, although the piping goes into and out of the SUB first. I guess it uses it as a cooler?. The transfer pump [on my '22] runs constantly until the sub is empty and then stays off unless fuel sloshes back into the SUB.

EDIT: the transfer also runs at each start until it convinces itself there's no fuel in the SUB, then switches off. This takes 1-2 minutes.

                            thanks, again!

Hopefully these will work on the new 2.8l 76 Series when I get mine.
