Nope but I am very well connected.

Ayone in the fleet industry involved in purchasing 4WD's is already across my first two points as they are normal procedure. The November launch was notified across the fleet industry in January 2009 as part of the normal planning process all manufacturers provide to fleet managers and the media to allow them to plan so is nothing new.

        • Re: When is the new generation Prado due?

What's in the mill? Sadly that's is something I am not prepared to comment on just yet as it will jeopordise my sources. But if you think about the various bits of technology in the LC200 and then look at the competitors vehicles you would logically expect that most manufacturers cascade down technology from one model to the next. For example the hilux HVAC is actually out of the Lexus sold in the USA as it is the most efficient product for Australian and other market models.

If you were an engineer tasked with improving on what is already a very good and extremely popular product to ensure it remained the most competitively equipped and value for money 4WD around then you would of course cast your eye over the competition and look to either meet or preferably beat them across the board. This is a normal task analysis for any vehicle in a global and competitive market. If you appreciate that Prado is sold as a Lexus GX in the USA then you would also consider that the higher end technologies that exist in that brand and its competitors could easily become part of the cascade down strategy as well. That's what product development is all about, but constrained by budgets as well.

Would Toyota Australia jeopordise a key point of difference with Prado, 180L fuel capacity? Most likely not as any purchaser would look at the cost of another fuel tank and then a spare wheel carrier, call it $4k as a planning figure. Such a decision could easily push some purchasers, albeit a very small number of remote area users/tourers/off-road travellers, into other models. Just look at what has happened with LC200 and the current model improvements that allow for the removal of the much vaunted extra seats to be replaced by another fuel tank in some models. So they do listen in my view and rarely make the same mistake twice

          Regards

The new technologies in the LC200 are all good as is the power which is incredible but you also pay over $80000 for it. There are still some issues with the 200 that toyota are still to fix. The problems with the D4D prado and hilux still ongoing and i would prefer if toyota would spend the money to fix owners problems rather than on marketing.

On 3aw drive program, it was said that there is going to be a write up on the all new Prado in the paper tomorrow ( I am guessing they are refering to the liftout in the heraldsun). All in all he was saying that it will be worth waiting for the up and coming new model if you are in the market and the dealers are looking to sharping up their pencils to get these away. Also mention this is not just a upgrade ,it is a complete new model Prado.

Depends where you draw the line.... if the info so far turns out to be true (Carry over engines, gearbox, transfer, major suspension and chassis) then I say it's an upgrade.... a new body, interior and minor tweaks ain't all new, it's just changing the wrapping...

                      • Re: When is the new generation Prado due?

This is a bit lengthy but straight from a Toyota dealer as to the specs for the new models for Oz:

Production of the all new Toyota Prado is scheduled to start in August 2009 with an expected on sale date in Australia of December 2009.

Technical information is still under wraps but we do know that it will be an evolution of the current range of tried and tested engines and transmissions. This means a 4.0 litre VVTi equipped petrol V6 or a 3.0 litre D4-D turbo diesel, with the choice of 6 speed manual or 5 speed automatic gearboxes.

What we can confirm is improved equipment levels for Australian bound vehicles. Starting with the GX model.

Glad I bought when I did then.

In my GXL I already have:

 climate control air-con throughout (front, middle and rear)
                            rear parking sensors

BUT - I can easily seat 8 persons if needed without the need for a second car :!: :!:
AND - I can travel anywhere with a full fuel tank (180L) without the need to refuel :!: :!:

Sure the height adjustable front seat would be handy, but the current seats are pretty comfy all things considered.

Yeah... and the looks of the new shape will take a little while to get used to. Very happy with my 120 series as is. 8)

So the fuel gets wound down to only 150 litres. That means I will have to look for a servo after 1400 odd KM's instead of 1700 KM's. No biggie for me.

Still 4 models too, which I thought they might reduce.

The seat level down to 7 seats might move the market into mini buses for the big families.

The rear seats folding into the floor might reduce the cargo area slightly and make the fitting of drawers harder with less space to play with and less places to tie it down.

                                Folks

Most if not all of the people on this site are "Tourers or serious drivers" then the info supplied can only be good. Take out the rear seats (as most of us have done) and the there is a space for an under floor water tank. Same running gear should mean that all the existing suspension and traction upgrades will cost the same.

I'm wondering if one of the earlier posts talking about KDSS looking as installed in the photos will be true, if so will we need aftermarket gear, bearing in mind the new regularirty proposals for lift and tyre sizes?

All we Prado addicts need to do is convince Toyota that we are "valued customers" and treat us as such!! Lucky Toyota screwed my order for a new 120 series so that now I have an option of new model or a discounted 120 series. As it stands the trip into the desert in August in the 90 series (1997 V6 auto with 240K on the clock and going strong) is on!!

See ya in the desert, Richo.
