They'll fit, I think you'll find you just need to remove the tie down points in their entirety. Bolting the hooks sideways onto the tie down point as you have is actually creating a weak point and potentially dangerous. Recovery points should be mounted to the chasis for safety and strength.

You can't remove the tie down points as they are part of the bracket that holds on the Bull Bar

        Hi Michael and RogueAussie,
You now have me scatching my head. Cant seem to picture how they would sit (bushranger recovery hooks). Would like to see pics of the out come.
Your right its not ideal where mine are fitted but this is where a 4wd shop told me(mmm!??!!). Especially for the use of a bridal (will pull those two points inwards)!

          Re: recovery points

This is interesting, looks like we have at least three different methods of fitting the factory bull bar. Heres a picture of mine, as you can see the recovery hooks are bolted directly onto the chassis rail and they point downwards.

Mine is the three litre turbo diesel - which might explain some of the difference :?: Actually, your bar looks slightly different to mine as well :?:

Your hook appear to be bolt on the same as mine Rainman. I am running a TJM bar.

Looks like I have to find another solution. My bar set up is the same as Michael's. Is there anybody else with recovery hooks on a factory bulbar set up?

                  Hi Guys,

pretty interesting reading, I have beeing trying to figure out how to fit Bushranger hooks to my front end, as my tie downs and bull bar are identical to Michaels, The do almost look solid enough to use in a recovery, but was always more keen to purchase some propper rated ones.....

is looks like our only option is to either replace the bar or do a cut job on the bracket.......

Not a fan of cutting, and cant afford a steel bar at this stage  ...

                  Cheers

All you guys with the Factory Bars, might I suggest one of you (if not all of you, for effect) email Lukey and ask if he has something to suit. If you supply a photo I'm sure it would help. If he makes the 2 bolt model that I am chasing then I'd say that might fit on there without removing or altering the factory point ... just a suggestion.

                        Re: recovery points

                        Hi All,

It has been an interesting read this thread :!:
I have the same style of factory bar with the same mounting brackets, back in 2008 I did a short trip across the Simpson and beyond 8).

As the trip was approved by the Scouts certain requirements were to be met and you guessed it .. recovery points were one of them.
So I visited ARB, TJM the local 4 wd specialists (Fourby's), I had the official Off Road Driving instructor inspect my Prado ( who also builds and competes in off road competion himself), plus a couple of very experienced off roaders who also happen to be mining and mechanical engineers and the answer .... just use the ones already there .

Myself, I'm a mechanic although off the tools for the last 5 years but that supported my own thoughts.
Yes I know they are not "rated" but looking at the structure as long as the welding has been done by a certified welder ( and as these are Factory approved and fitted quality should be good) should not be an issue.

To be extra careful I use a long bridle to ensure as much force as possible is applied in line with the chassis rails.
Yes rated should be better but having seen last year in Cape York a Rated recovery point pulled out of a chassis rail  on a 18 month old vehicle there is more to it than just the recovery point itself.

So my thoughts are use the existing points with a bridle & leash, plus always dig first etc to minimise stresses where you can.

                        Lee

edit, as my bar is Airbag compliant I believe that is part of the reason for the design of the bullbar mounting bracket, I assume your bars are as well?

                          Re: recovery points

Yep be interested in a Lukey solution!
I dont have the loops like you guys just two holes like it was made for a recovery hook to be attached! ( hmmm NOT!)
If no solution, cause the loops or hooks would have to hang down lower past the brackets, might do a bit of cutting!

                            Hi Leethal,

Thanks for that info mate, atleast we ( as on the guys that have the same set up an myself) may be able to get away with using the current units.

Hey guys, happen to catch up with my hunting buddy today, he used to work with ARB, he had a gander at my two recovery points and did say that would be plenty strong enough for recovery, he has them on his hilux and uses them as his recovery point
