I think you are correct with that assessment in general, the Kings are stiffer than the TJM spec, even though they are made in the same factory!

2.5 weeks is not a lot of time to sort something easily, I would check in with Ironman if you are set on twin tubes and ask about the Foamcell Pros. They are a substantially larger bore and hold a bucket load more oil. I could revalve at least the rears for you assuming you find an appropriate linear rear coil in the 260-280lb/in range. You can prolly get away with Ironmans valving for the struts on the front and run with their 617lb/in coil (TOY038B), as my strut valving is more suitable for a higher rate in the 650-700lb/in range. EFS might also be something worth looking at on short notice.

Not overly passionate over twin tubes....Moreso just looking for a good setup with a bit of lift for touring and can handle the occasional light 4x4 drive in the forests/trails that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Car spends 90% of its time as a town commuter/highway runner and not used for hard core 4x4. I prefer a comfort vehicle with some off road capability rather than a perfect off-road machine thats a pig on the blacktop if that makes sense.

OME was an obvious look at first but did come up pricey and they have a supply issue anyway. I have a quote for Dobinson/Legends combo that isnt too bad but don't know much about them. Lovell/Bilstein combo gets a good wrap from people but local prices are through the roof compared to those on 4wd-Direct page etc.......but they haven't replied to my email request for a quote and recommended spec so not sure if their advertised kits are the go for me or not.

Thinking i might leave the Prado at home and take the Kluger on my trip....lol....

      G'day Bart,

4X4 World do the Dobinson/Bilstein kits. Check out the Dobinson website the link is there.
As for the colour well that's a personal thing, but unless you are strapped under the vehicle DeNiro style you can hardly even notice the colour.
The kit I have under mine is 1000 times better than the flogged OEM that preceded it.
The Airbags I also had fitted adjust to the amount of stiffness to the rear by running a minimum pressure(>5psi) or a little more to suit your requirements.
For what you want to do I think you are reading a lot into it.
My older bro has a 120 petrol with a TJM setup and heavy duty rear and I can say it rides pretty good.
We have both owned 4wd for over 34 years and had many with all kinds of lifts and setups. Both our vehicles ride good and can handle anything we choose to travel over.
I realise the need to get what you think will serve your purpose and to handle all your accessories that you will fit but the kits out there are not that bad.
But hey Bart this is your choice but don't do your head in in the meantime.
Best of luck finding your kit.

      Cheers
      Jim

        Thanks Jim,

I only got the chance to check your response this evening but over the last few days had pretty well followed your advice and decided that for my intended use, the difference between some of the options I was contemplating would be negligible, and in some other cases added expense for little benefit when used the way I intend.

I ended up going for a Dobinsons/Lovell combo after considering other users experiences, price point, intended usage etc. I ended up discussing with John @ Zordo's who I found excellent to deal with. He has a good rep with other owners and after some discussion I landed on the above combo. He provided excellent customer service and communication. Items were dispatched as promised and were on my doorstep 24hrs after they left his workshop. As a comparison I am still awaiting a quote from one supplier I emailed ( at their request) nearly 3 weeks ago, have sent followup emails, and a phone call. Still no quote....Hmmm....Zordo's will be my goto place for anything suspension on any of my vehicles in future.

My new gear will be installed over the coming few days. I am not expecting any real surprises as this combo has been supplied to many happy owners in the past.

As you say, anything will be better than clapped out OEM, and my intended usage isn't going to stress or test equipment to its limits. The reality is that a nice 'middle of the road' package will service me well for my usage. I am confident I have made a good choice.

Cheers and thankyou for taking the time to respond.

        Bart.

That's great Bart you won't be disappointed with Zordos as have heard good reports first hand about the service.
I am having all bushes replaced under mine shortly along with the steering rack end ball joints and tie rod ends for around $2150 fitted.
When the new suspension went in a few bugs started to appear so to speak.
Let us all know how the setup performs once you have it installed.

          Cheers
          Jim
