I am looking to replace my trusty 07 D4D and so took one of the new Thai built 2.8 Prados and I was really disappointed.
Maybe it's new "smooth" engine fooled me but it really seemed to lack power.
I drove it back to back it with a Frontera which had a bit more poke but I recon my old girl would leave both of them for dead.
The finish on the Prados has never been their strong point but they seem to have dropped down another level.
As for your pricing it seems like Toyota are taking us for a ride at $70K for a GXL diesel auto.
I really wanted to buy another Prado but comparing it to the Jap built Pajero Exceed for the same money I'm left scratching my head why I should buy one.
Please don't attack me, I'm a real Toyota fan but I really feel we are being taken for granted with this new model.
Are people really such die hard Toyota fans that they think they are getting a good deal here?
You need to compare apples with apples though. Your comparing the exceed to a gxl. You need to compare the kakadu with the exceed or the gxl with the glx for a fair comparison. Of course driving the exceed with all the bells and whistles is going to feel better. Your surrounded by luxury.

As for the 2.8. Try find one to drive that's done at least 1000kms. Mine only started opening up now and its on 7500km. Power wise there isn't alot of difference. Its a million times quiter though and 15 years newer than the 1kd. I'd agree with you at first it feels sluggish but i love driving mine now and it's definitely learnt my driving style.

The Pajero becomes great value second hand but if buying new wait a little longer and the resale will be worth the wait. Compare your resale of your car now to a same year Pajero on red book.
i don't buy a car based on resale, i buy a car that i want to work, and work well and be good to drive

I paid 87800k on road for Kakadu 2.8 with ARB Deluxe bar, Toyota Tow Bar, Mats, Bonnet Protector, Rear Cargo Mat, Tint and full tank. Metal Storm Colour. I have a very good contact at Melbourne city that be more than happy to help with new purchases.

30% is the legal limit, below that is illegal. I have 16% from TKO Tint. They do 30, 22, 16 off memory (and lower of course). That LOOKS darker than mine.... but mine is a 2010 GX, so it might be the privacy glass changes....

I'm passed legal. They matched the front to the privacy glass. It's the next one after legal limit but before limo.

White if you are worry about bush scrubs.
when clear coat gets scratched it turns white.
so on white car its rarely shown.
however downside is that being white it does get dirty easier.
I would choose white over silver for 4wding, cheaper, cooler and easier to touch up. as Stoo mentioned

Bronze looks OK but in GXL guise you're stuck with a beige interior. And that's just wrong.

What do people think of the liquid bronze colour? Tossing up between crystal pearl or the bronze colour. Currently have the crystal pearl and granted its hard to tell when dirty but thought maybe something different would be better.

I reckon silver and white are the best choices to not show the pinstripes you will get if you are using the 4by for what it's designed for . Cleaning the car is a chore for me, I'd rather be driving it

Sooo many white ones are for sale all the time. Any other colour is rarer and prob better resale. Just something to think of.

We had a silver Ford Focus, it was great as never showed up dirt. When it actually looked dirty, you knew it was REALLLLLLLY dirty!
