    Tow Bar
Possibly reversing sensors depending on veiw of people who have them

2006 GXL D4D, Gun Metal Grey, Soverign Bull Bar, Uniden UH400SX-RM CB. Rock slider steps from WASP, 2" Lift Bilsteins with King Springs, Cooper ST Maxx 265/70/17's and a Safari Snorkel. My Wife's future shopping list includes in order a Winch (Most likely a Tigerz), Bash Plates, Rear Bar, Dual Battery setup and a 60l Fridge. And the list gets longer each time we talk about the car.

    • Welcome to the forum muddles. have you considered fitting an ARB steel bullbar rather than a factory sov alloy bull bar. Better frontal protection for the same price. The arb bar comes with a rated front recovery point as well as protection skid plate for the radiator. Something for your to consider before signing on the dotted line.

      • Hi muddles. I have got reversing sensors and while they have saved me a couple of times, I think for around the cost of the reversing sensors you could upgrade the headunit to something like the polaris with a reversing camera and have a GPS system as well

        Cheers,
        Kevin

          • I agree with Kevin's comment. I went for the reversing sensors because they work really well on my E series but the Toyota ones aren't as good. I get spurious signals and if I fit my Treg hitch (no trailer) the things go beserk in reverse. For the $400 I would have been better off with an aftermarket head unit (which I am thinking of anyway) with camera, GPS etc etc.

            • Hi Muddles,
Welcome to the forum. I see you are getting a snorkle, so to me that indicates that you plan to be off road in water. Without scaring you, tyre upgrade would be your main attraction.
As you can see by the forum you can spend a squilion dollars and still not have everything. It all depends on where you hope to drive the chariot.

              • Hi Plucker,

I had thought of that. Going to run the vehicle in on the stock rubber supplied then looking at either Bridgestones or BFG's will see what i prefer when the time comes

                cheers

                • Hi All, a newbie here.
I joined a couple of weeks ago but have been reading for a few months. Love this place, it has so much information. I would dearly love to buy a new 120 series but I am thinking we will not be financially ready unitl at least the end of the year. Already got the colour and basic first up accessories picked   .
Have driven a new petrol and even the wife liked driving it  . Also drove a new D4D auto and couldn't believe how well it cruises off from the lights. Would go the D4D but can't justify the extra up front cost for the amount of km's we would do a year.
Anyway you may hear from me time to time asking all sorts of silly questions to learn more about these wonderful machines.

                  Mark.

If you want to get ya bum into a Prado sooner you may want to look at some of the great 2nd hand units around. There's even a few D4D's, with low K's on the clock, starting to turn up in car yards .... buggered if I know why - I certainly couldn't see myself getting rid of one. :?

                    Cheers

Cheers mate, thanks for the welcome. I'm currently in an 06 Impreza STI & looking at a new Prado. Bit disappointed to be honest after reading about the delivery waiting period. I set myself today on a new black GXL petrol. Looks like now it's back to the used car dealers....
Chris, if you are after a petrol their won't be the wait like the diesel, we got ours within two weeks.

Cheers mate, I've been told the same thing by the dealer. Depending on colour of course (white or silver I could have this week). I want a charcoal grey one, will be placing the order tomorrow. Apparently worse case scenario I'll be getting into it early - mid April.

                      • My Introduction

                        Hi there,

My name is Stuart Johnson. I live in Budgewoi on the NSW Central Coast (around an hour from northern Sydney and 30 minutes south of Newcastle). I work from home 3 days a week and 2 days a week I work up at Taylors Beach - which is just off Stockton Beach (no prizes for guessing what I do at lunch time!).

I bought my Prado new in 2006. It's my first 4WD and I'm loving it! My wife and I are active members of our local 4WD club, and we constantly do outings with other 4WD owners (usually to the Wattagans, Stockton, Myall Lakes and Gloucester/Barrington). Stockton is by far my favourite place, but I do like getting the car muddy as well.

So, to use the template designed in the first post of this thread...

                        Model: 120 Series GXL (Petrol)
                        Year: 2006
Colour: Dark Grey (won't be doing that again!)
Accessories: Factory bullbar, tow bar, 2x 170 LightForce, GME 3400, Mickey Thomson MTX, rhino racks & basket, GPS/Sat Nav (TomTom and OzExplorer), 240v inverter
Wishlist: Snorkel, locker, 2" lift kit

My wifes name is Jo (Joleen) and we have an (almost) 3 year old son, Alex. We all love getting out and exploring, driving and camping.

Hopefully I'll get to meet a few of you over the coming weeks and months. I'm trying to organise a Blacksmith Beach trip soon, so if you're interested in an easy day trip, give me a shout.

                        Thanks for reading!

                        Stu.
