Long term reader - and love all the info here. Officially a member now so I can contribute!

Accessories: arb winchbar, winch, ipf's, arb front and rear lockers, ome suspension, UHF, snorkel, roof rack, awning, 265 cooper muds, sliders and dents...

Auto - it is my wife's car and she prefers auto. I actually like the auto for hill climbs, an have mastered the accelerated braking for downhills.

mine used to be my wife's car..



but the blue started when i removed the side steps, then bigger tyres then the 40mm lift.( she's only 5 foot tall ). and the killer was the fuel bill as a daily work runner for her , was a 100 a week, but now 50 bucks in a sweet fg xr6. // less kays on my toy, and i like it that way... the other positive is that the prado .
is nearly paid for and has only 132,000 kays 12months to go and i would think i barely put 10 kay on it each year.. once i own it it becomes a real 4wd... dont plan on selling it ,,, just driving it till it dies... with maintenance of coarse... will pass it on to my boy in ten years time,, cheers butane



the lighter side is on holidays we can take the fg on trips if you want to go in the sedan. cheap as.....hi way milage is 9.1 per 100... nice for such a grunty 6

P.S my v6 is the 6 spd manual, and its great for towing, and downhill decent, just pick the gear. lol

Hey Everybody,

I have been hanging around reading threads on here for a while and thought I had better chime in and say hello.

We have recently bought the 2013 Altitude, SWMBO loves the sunroof and roof mounted dvd player for the kids.

I love the pearl white paint job.......so far, we will see how the bush pin striping looks after a few trips.

So far I have sold off the grandtreks and fitted BFG's AT.

I had a 100ah agm battery that's in good condition sitting in my garage after selling my CT so have wired that up with an Andersen at the rear and in the cargo area for a fridge etc.

The only other thing I am thinking about doing to it is a 2 inch lift.

As my name suggests we live in Noosa so spend a lot of time on the beach between Noosa and Rainbow.

This is our 5th Prado and I have never had to really do much to them, but we plan a bit of bush travelling over the next year or so I look forward to pinching some ideas off PP members.

evening all. Just re joined after a short hiatus.

Used to have a very mint 120 KZTE with 300,000 kms on the clock before some mouth-breather in a falcon did a rather good job of writing it off. Anyway with the insurance almost got into a new Y61 Patrol before sensibility (and the safety thing) got the better of me and i ended up with a brand new 150 GX. Got the 7 seat option thrown in (for taking the guys Mountainbiking) along with towbar, mats and the alloy bar up front. Added some after market side steps (so my fiance can get in the thing - she is quite short, bless oh and for any future kids too) , bonnet protector thing, roof racks and some led light bars up front.

Not much planned for future mods aside from a second set of wheels with some muddies and under body armor, maybe a roof console with radio perhaps and possibly a proper roof basket down the track. No plans for a lift as i can get pretty far with careful line selection )....i once got my old 120 down the Brewery track out the back of woods point in stock form but thats a story for another day ha ha!.

Got an auto this time too after being a die hard manual guy for years and got to say im pleasantly surprised!!!!

Long time lurker.....infrequent poster.

We've just welcomed a 2011 GXL Manual D4D to the family to replace our much loved and well travelled 2007 GX Manual D4D. Well, actually at the moment it is to join our 120 series but I'll be cleaning up and moving on the old model over the next couple of months. For now it's quite nice owning two Prado's....

The 120 has given great service. We bought it in June 2009 with a bullbar and 60,000 km's on the clock and we added a winch, OME suspension, Cooper STs, Rhino HD racks, dual battery, HID's, UHF, Dig-options TP09X1 with TV and reversing camera. Our kids are only 3 and 6, but we have been through Kakadu and Litchfield, lower Cape York, Channel Country, Birdsville Track, Central Oz, Coorong and SE, Eyre and Yorke Peninsulas and Flinders Ranges over the years and it's just ticked over to 150,000 km's. What fun we've all had in that bus, so it's a little sad to be moving it on, particularly for the older kid who was a bit teary at the news.

Short term plans for the 150 are to replace the Toyo factory bullbar with an ARB colour winchbar, plus winch, snorkel, dual battery, UHF, new GPS/DVD head unit, and then do something with the dunlops and a "tasteful" suspension lift to suit. So more of the same!

Shameful of me to take so much great info from this forum over the years and give so little back, so long overdue for an intro. Might even try to get to 15 posts and put the 120 up for sale on the forum.

nice intro rob, all good with me mate, enjoy the new ride, but do your research on the lift, as the boys are still sorting out that droop.. 120 owner , dont know much about it but look into it b4 you choose the lift parts, cheers mate butaane

As per the 120, the criteria for the suspension is to improve ride and deal with the weight of the accessories rather than lift for the sake of lift, so I'll be looking for something that looks reasonably stock while achieving this. That's why I went with OME for the 120 and I was very happy with the result.

I'll certainly be doing my research, and have pretty much read all of the build threads, but would appreciate any thoughts from members on this subject.

It's a 4 speed auto, got auto for driving on sand. We brought it from a dealer, but the previous owner used it for touring around oz.

i put a d.i.y ironman 40mm lift under my 120, and its has paid for itself 5 times over on the open road and dirt/gravel.. tar well stiffer sometimes isnt better, but the soft toyota suspension had too much body roll, around corners, but comfortable on a tar straight road.. never looked back, only thing for quality with the product, would be keep a eye on the lower shock bushes, but so far so good ,, the ride is great evan with a V6 6spd. and a heavy right boot.. abs does its job nice, on the dirt with a load pushing behind. i think i got my money's worth .. but research your's first,, cheers mate butane

P.S i matched my ironman sus. up with a full set of Mickey Thompsen 5 rib atz's love EM , but as the rig gets set up , will go more agressive pattern next time or , get a spare set of rims for muddies.. . as far as off road wet grip goes

New here, so be nice. yes i had a jeep. enough said about that. As i now have a Prado 150 GXl white, diesel. Just stock standard at the moment.
Will be putting in my Two way on the weekend.

My wish list far exceeds my readies, but bit by bit.

After owning 6 Holdens in a row (Commodores of various ilk, Berlina, R8 and a Calais), I thought it was high time for a change. Following six months of procrastination, uming and aring between a 200 Series or a Prado I finally bit the bullet and bought a Kakadu. Partly because there was no way I could fit a full size cruiser in my carport but mainly because it was the car that would serve us the best for now.

I have never really been "in to cars" per-sea but 2 weeks into owning the Prado I must say I am loving it. It's the first car that I have owned that I've wanted to customise in any way. Not really sure what I am going to do to it yet so right now it is basically stock. I did install a UHF and roof racks but looking through this site I can see that really doesn't rate.... but it's a start I guess.

Given I live in the Sydney metro area I wanted the 4x4 to give the kids a bit of exposure to the out doors by getting off the beaten track. I have been out for a bit of a play, took the family to McMahons Lookout and to Boat Harbour. I am getting sick of copping flack for having a too clean and shiny 4x4 so keen to get it dirty and tag along on a drive day or two down the track.

Anyway I think I have caught the bug, looking forward to learning more here and contributing where I can, hope to see you out there!

Jeeps can be ok, but I would not have one. There are lots of tips here on how to get assistance with purchasing extras. The method I used was to slide down a hill (backwards) and get stuck for a couple of hours..... The next day SWMBO told me to get a winch so we would not get stuck again...

Welcome to the forum Adam. I also owned 6 Holdens in a row before catching the 4wd bug. That was a while ago now because those Holdens were Toranas
