  • Hi Guys,
I am Phil, my SWMBO has had a 2004 white GXL V6 just over a year. Mods include ARB bull bar, winch, snorkel, twin batteries, roof rack, rear draws, UFH and a new set of Mickey Thompson ATZ 4 Rib on black Alloy rims. Lift to come soon.
We have done a few trips and played around on the beach.
I keep joking that I am going to take the Prado up the Mundaring Power Lines, but she won't let me, because of the damage I have done to our other 4X4s!
    Cheers,
    Phil.

      • G'day Everyone,

I have just registed as I am due to collect a 2013 Prado Altitude from the deal in the next couple of weeks. I haven't been seriously involved with any off-roading for a long time due to work commitments, but am looking to make time for it now! I used to live in Abu Dhabi, capital of the UAE and founded the Middle East 4x4 club during my time there. Looking forward to getting involved and gradually building up my new vehicle for the trips I've promised myself!
        Jon

          • Absolutely. I've long thought that the Prado was a good fit for my needs - the long range fuel tank has always appealed. Really looking forward to being a 4x4 owner again!

            • Hi, new to the forum . . . I'm on a long dreamed of journey round Oz with my gf. Bought a 2004 GXL in Melbourne -- came nicely equipped-- and we're doing your fine continent counter-clockwise. Never owned a Toyota before, but its been a fun beast for 3K kilometers or so.

              High points so far:
Lake Mungo and beyond -- endless red dirt roads to bounce over; always wanted to see outback NSW, there's a lot to see.

Narrabri -- not many people seem to know this place, but it was beautiful. Mt Kaputar is pretty well known, but a local pointed us to Waa Gorge, which was amazing. Really made me appreciate a 4WD with high clearance . . .

14 Crossings -- just did that, the Condamine River. Really fun, and while others said the water wasn't that deep, it sure felt like a challenge.

I've got plenty of noob questions about the Prado . . .

                • Finally got a Photobucket account, so here are a couple of the Prado:-

Sitting a bit low due to all the accessories, so need lift soon.

                  Cheers,

                  Phil.

                  • Welcome to the forum, Phil. Great looking Prado, nice colour choice too. Some steel steps/sliders and some bashplates with the suspension lift will round your Prado off nicely! You'll never be wondering what you're going to do with your spare cash on this forum...

                    • Been hanging round for a while, but hadn't found this thread yet

                      Howdy!

Bought a 2010 GXL D4D Auto after looking for a Prado for a while. Already had the ARB Safari Bar, Lightforce XGT's, towbar and Cooper ST Maxx (in 265/70/17, which I think might be illegal?) fitted. The paint was a bit rough, but the price was low enough I could ignore that. It runs sweet, and the underbody looked pretty prestine - I think this car has done a little work, but not too much offroad, and probably no heavy towing as there was no brake controller or evidence of one having been fitted (though thats not proof), and the tow bar hitch was brand new, never fitted, still in the plastic.

It goes in this week to have my brake controller fitted so I can tow the camper again (no time before next weekend to do it myself!) And it needs a good once over from my mechanic to ensure its been treated as well as I think it has been.

Will be sorting it into a long distance tourer, ready for the Simpson next year (my 1yo will be old enough by then to cope with slightly larger distances than he can handle now... I hope!)

a few of the pics from the car yard. I haven't had a non-raining day since I bought it home to take any of my own yet :/

Just upgraded to the wonderful world of landcruiser's -

I tend to spend a lot of time on forums for research but never end up saying too much, lets just say im a good listener!
Interested in meets and trips, i usually do most mechanical work meself as i have a bit of experience (not 4wd's or diesels however but love to learn!) and an aircraft engineer by trade.
Just moved to Brisbane, australia recently and still exploring the local area, usually rope the missus and our 18month old into accompanying me on my hair brained adventures and keen to see what the Prado can do!
Hope to meet some likeminded individuals and get the rig dirty soon!

                        Cheers, Heath
