  • Greetings everyone.
This will be my first Prado, a company supplied 2006 GRJ120 with the 1GR-FE motor, in GX trim complete with fluro stripe and a (removable) flashing beacon that will keep the kids amused for hours. It's been in the fleet since new but never been an ops vehicle, 45,000 easy highway kms and tootling around, one careful owner (my boss!).

It's on an unrestricted personal use deal so expect to see the fluro stripe in the darkest WA winter nights, camped somewhere out back. We're a mad keen camping / fishing / 4WD family, we'll be towing a South African made off-road trailer and sleeping in the legendary Southern Cross swags. So all up the vehicle is pretty much perfect for our needs.

    Previous Toyota history:
    1. 80s: Hilux pick-up on the farm at home in England. Probably the first in the county and was regarded as Jap sacrilege by the locals. Like burning the Koran. Or marrying your sister. After it had recovered countless broken Land Rovers people started taking notice.
    2. Then an early 60 series 2F petrol in Norway that took me up and over back through Finland and Sweden and all over. Slowly.
    3. 90s: In South Africa a Hilux Double Cab with 2.2 petrol (4Y) that took me >260,000km in 12 years. Longest trip was a 45,000km 14 month trip from the Cape to the Sahara and back again. That vehicle was a legend.
    4. 00s: First an imported Jap Surf 3.0 3VZ-E in NZ. Brilliant touring car for NZ conditions.
    5. Then a company mine vehicle – ’08 70 series Troopie with the 1VD V8 diesel. Wow. Lethal in the wet when the boost came in.
    7. And now a 2010 Kluger for the wife, which is what we’ve been using around WA this past year.

When we’ve settled into Kal I want to start a new build for a between-jobs 9 month Aus all rounder. With wife & two little fellas, towing a 700kg trailer plus gear, we’re pretty sure we’ll start with a stock Prado 120 series and go from there.

Have been reading through the threads on this forum and am really enjoyed with what I’ve seen.

    Cheers
    Dave

      Hello all,
Finally found some time to explore this site and how good is it? Brilliant to see so many people so passionate about the same thing. The wife is constantly on Face Book, not my kind of site, but now I have an excuse to be constantly on the lap top.
My family and I, two beautiful girls aged 7 and 9, love nothing more than getting amongst it and spending as much time under the stars as possible.
Look forward to chatting and am constantly on the lookout for PP stickers now. Just ordered mine.

      Cheers

        • Hi everyone, I've been a N####n bloke for years but now all of my sons have Prados, they have all tried to impress me, and i must say I think it's working.
very impressed with the ride for starters.
Anyway I am in WA and love working on engines even tho I'm no expert and we plan to do lots of mods.
          Thanks for having me, Rod.

            new name, same service..

            Jeff.
Reminds me of my safari in Africa. Somebody forgot the corkscrew and for several days we had to live on nothing but food and water.

            • Hi all. Been lurking on here for a while but just started posting. I have an 03 Gxl (not 05 like my user name, its a long story about a car i bought but the owner traded it in on me after i'd paid a deposit on it).
It's a V6, 4spd Auto, has the standard toyota bullbar.
future mods: 2 inch lift, dual batteries, ARB bar and winch, A/T rubber, lightforce spotties, just the standard tried and proven mods which i've heard about on this forum.
I'm a big fan of forums and the info you can gain on them. My other toy is a 308 V8, 5 spd Manual LX Torana, i'm a member on the GMH torana forum and the info i learnt off there is priceless. From what i've seen on PRADOPOINT im sure everyone here will be full of great info and advise also.
It's actually a very standard 03 GXL V6 Auto with Toyota Bullbar which has never seen dirt.
Wish list: 2 inch lift, A/T tyres, Dual battery set up, Safari Snorkle, ARB Bar with winch, lightforce spotties.
Planning on making up for all those years of bitumen only travel.

                • Hi Ya'll, Have recently entered the Prado world. Its my first 4wd and so far am pretty happy with it.
                  This is my Prado:

Model: Grande VX. 3.4 ltr V6 petrol
                  Year: 1997
                  Colour: kind of silvery
Accessories: Not sure what it cam with from factory but has tow bar and side steps
Wishlist: Where do you start, i dont think I have enough room. Firstly a nice bull bar with winch and lights, then CB and dirty big aerial, rear bar wth 2nd spare tyre, supercharger.

How have you set your Prado up?
                  I washed it.
Replaced all the tyres coz they were smooth as a babys bum. Put on a set of Coopes ST. Took off the roof racks coz they were a bit average and dont have the key to use them anyway. Replaced discs and pads all around. replaced rear shocks. Got it serviced as i couldnt tell when it was done last.

Found out there is an outstanding recall on my vehicle - need to have the rear axles replaced. My local Toyota dealer has ordered them and they will be replaced (free of charge of course) in a couple of weeks. Have yet to do any 4wdíng in it, but I plan to.

                              • The dealer said if I wasn't fussed about colour, they may be able to source one sooner.

Graphite was 1st choice and that is what it will be, unless they get a cancelled order or whatever, turn up earlier.

They said yesterday they expect the Graphite mid August.
