Its all well and good if you have plenty of room to get a good grip with your hand but for example on our work Hilux you have very little room and can only manage three fingers on the handle and that’s when you are hot and sweaty, mud all over you, in the middle of the day in the top end with 90% humidity...poor design for an expensive winch (Warn).

Thats very expensive!!!Originally posted by gumboot View PostRang Opposite lock Qld. For a Avenger Mako TDS9.5 with Synthetics rope, installed they want $1445.
The winch sells for $1045 with rope so $400 for fitting (Plus their profit margin)!!!!! Thats way too expensive.
I did it myself but was quoted $200 to fit.
You dont have to remove the bar, so $400 is way too expensive.
Get some more quotes, they are screwing you

Hi GumbootOriginally posted by gumboot View PostRang Opposite lock Qld. For a Avenger Mako TDS9.5 with Synthetics rope, installed they want $1445.
I have one order at OL Underwood their price $1195.00 for the winch (this includes the freight) and $175.00 for fitting. Fourbys wanted $400.00 to fit and the same winch price of $1195.00, they said the bullbar had to be removed to fit.

Thats funny, OL in NSW were selling it for $1045 with rope.
Thats what I paid a few weeks ago and that was, at the time, their regular price.
Price must be going up due them pushing the VRS brand maybe???
Either way, great winch, you wont be sorry

I had a look on their website and there are others but from what I have been told that there isn't any available stock from the distributor in Melbourne, that is why I'm waiting for one. Fourbys gave them a good wrap but they were expensive.

So based on this recommendation, you'll need to do a winch recovery regularly,....one tough track for the SEQld Crew each month.Originally posted by RichosonThey also stated that if you didn't use the winch every month (in which case buy the Warn 9.5XP) that the Avenger is the best in the economy range of winches, more so if you wish to use rope instead of cable.
I say keep the Reccy's coming in 2012. With all the crew having winch's now,....that's a lot of recovering.

Managed to get a pic of my freespool lever tonight while I was fixing up the washer bottle guards of my Sahara bar (plates were sitting on the outside of the bar, all good now) I may have a solution to the problem of the awkwardness of operating this toggle by replacing it with an XD9000 toggle (see pics) I was looking at Warn winches at an ARB store yesterday and the freespoolhousing appears to be identical so I will have to investigate further....Originally posted by craigm View PostFrom the easiest freespool lever to the hardest... My Magnum 9000 winch has a stupid little toggle that offers very little leverage to rotate. (Sorry about the pixelated image - All that I could find. I will replace with a pic of mine when tonight)

Good idea Craig, if you can do it at reasonable cost!
Alternatively, take it apart and get an extension welded onto it.
Easier and cheaper maybe?

Good call 1CB about welding a tag on. Not having a clue about what kind of welding can be done on this type of material though? I would have to call on a few favors from a mate. The other option is make up some kind of a handle that I could keep in the glovebox that is keyed to suit that will go over the toggle that will offer more leverage2004 V6 Grande. BLACK -

Not wishing to 'rain on your parade', looking at the photo the existing handle looks cast - not being an expert (so I don't know) can you weld cast material? I understand it makes a difference if it's cast steel as opposed to cast iron?Originally posted by 1coolbanana View PostAlternatively, take it apart and get an extension welded onto it.
