Thats a shame. Cutting themselves out of a fair chunk of potential sales if that's the case. There seems to be a lot of ppl with non arb bars around.Originally posted by AJ120 View PostI would imagine ARB would try pretty hard to make them only compatible with their own bar, I know I would if I was them.

Just looking at the second photo in amts post, do you normally have the strap attached to the pin or to the rounded end or doesn't it matter?2004,GXL V6 Auto. I'm 99% sure they attach to the chassis rails not the bar, so it should make little/no difference.Originally posted by Ages View PostThats a shame. This is what ARB said in their press release:Originally posted by pradogang View PostJust looking at the second photo in amts post, do you normally have the strap attached to the pin or to the rounded end or doesn't it matter?
"Another important design requirement was the ability of these points to be rated in an angled direction of pull, and this has been achieved for angles up to the maximum turn angle of the front wheels of the vehicle. With this requirement came questions of how the snatch strap is attached to the point, and for this reason ARB recovery points have a long slot that allows the bow of the shackle to be fed through and the strap then attached via the pin instead of the bow. This allows the shackle to pivot within the recovery points to avoid side loads on the pin."

My apologies wooley - I didn't see your post.Originally posted by wooley View PostI posted this the other day.
I imagine also with these new points that you would only need one on the front, thus not needing an equaliser strap?NOW FOR SALE!!! - 2004 Silver GXL 3lt 4spd Auto - ARB Bullbar, Safari Snorkel, Redarc Dual Battery System, Cooper ST MAXX, Dark Tint, IPF900XS spots, Raised Bilstein/Kings Suspension/Firestone Airbags, Autosafe Cargo Barrier, Sandgrabbers, Rola Roof Rack Stuff, Insect Screen, Dust/Wind Deflectors, Sheepskin/Black Duck Seatcovers, GME TX3510, ARB underbonnet compressor, Allied Hammer Rims, ARB UVP, AJ Sliders

To be honest I can't imagine only using one - the chassis wouldn't stand up to it. Have you seen the video someone posted up of the front of the chassis being ripped off from trying to recover from a sand bogging?Originally posted by Madkore View PostThen you would need 2 of these points? Hmmm...

No but I have seen a standard 80 series wagon after pulling a small 4x4 truck out of sand using one recovery point on one side rail. The doors didn't close anymore!Originally posted by Trekrider View PostTo be honest I can't imagine only using one - the chassis wouldn't stand up to it. I agree with your logic in using to points and an equalising strap to pull evenly in a recovery. I think that is the best method although I prefer winching other than snatching as I think it puts less strain on both vehicles. IMO I think there's more to it with the Prado in the video that had the chassis ripped off. If you notice, the rear plastic bumper was also ripped off. I suggest that it may have been buried down to the chassis rails when it was pulled as that would explain why the rear end came off as well. Either way, it took an enormous amount of resistance to cause this amount of damage.Originally posted by Trekrider View PostTo be honest I can't imagine only using one - the chassis wouldn't stand up to it. Completely agree with you that this was an extreme recovery conducted by people who didn't have a clue how to do so safely. You only have to search you tube and you will find plenty of examples that make you wonder why more people don't get killed or seriously injured (and that's just the ones filmed and posted online).Originally posted by Bazza View PostI agree with your logic in using to points and an equalising strap to pull evenly in a recovery. Hi guys, I just wanted to set the record straight on this one.
Our range of rated recovery points is obviously still very new and has only been promoted on our website for a few weeks. Due to the cost involved in the vehicle specific engineering to get the recovery points and associated mounting systems officially rated, we will be monitoring customer response on a limited range before making the decision to expand it to further vehicles.
In terms of development for the Prado, despite what you may have heard, there is currently nothing in development, although, this may be re-addressed based on the response to the models that have been released.
At this stage, we have released recovery points for the Hilux (2005 on), BT50/Ranger (pre 2011), LandCruiser 70 Series (1999 on) and have a GU Patrol version in development. This initial range was chosen after significant fleet demand for points on these vehicles.
From an Australian pricing point of view, the current releases range from AUD$218.00 to AUD$255.00 per point depending on the vehicle.
For more information on the engineering and testing behind the products, check out the in depth article in our latest ARB 4X4 Action magazine which can be accessed from our website.
Cheers, Sam.ARB 4x4 Accessories Head Office

I just had a read of the ARB 4X4 Action magazine on line and it does go into some depth as to what goes into designing and making the recovery points.
Just hope they do make them for the 120 series. Do we need to do a petition to ARB to get them to consider it?Tasmania 2015 GTG Committee Member 2005 Prado Pilbara, Sovereign Bar, Driver & passenger weathershields, UHF TX3220, Spare wheel spaces, Lifestyle rack, Genuine front & midrow seatcovers, Genuine front & midrow rubber floor mats, ARB 47 litre fridge/freezer, Hilux washer jets, BF Goodridge A/T, Radiator protection plate, Dual battery tray and isolator, ARB 2.5m awning, Rhino heavy duty areo bars, MSA rear wheel bin, MAXTRAX

I emailed ARB to ask about the recovery points and if they were going to be available for the Prado - I got this back from an ARB 'Sales Person':
"Thanks for your e-mail and sorry for my late reply. Unfortunately we do not provide recovery points for your vehicle as of yet and currently have no plans to make any. The ARB bar however already has 2 recovery eyelets on the bottom of the bar next to the factory one that can be used with 2 shackles and a bridle for frontal recovery. If you have any questions about this or would like more information please feel free to contact me."
I wish ARB would train their sales staff to give correct information - seems this is yet another one that thinks the tow points are recovery points.
