A few years back we had the wife's niece visiting from Ireland and was absolutely terrified of our spiders and would run a mile. I showed her the beauty of the orb weavers as they made and repaired their webs at sunset in the back yard. Within a week I had her gently stroking the back of an orb weaver as it sept during the day on the palm tree (it didn't wake up). If she can do it anyone can.
Cheers, Jim.[SIZE=1]Cheers Jim.

The spiders I don't mind, natural pest controllers, beautiful creatures under the macro lens. The roaches? don't even like picking up the dead ones, leave that up to the missus. They look too bloody alien.[SIZE=1]Cheers Jim.

I normally detour across 4 black soil plains and two 1 metre deep swamps and the rest when i see one hanging across the track.Originally posted by Talktheroo View PostDon't worry about the Huntsman, this is a spider that you have to respect.

The Northern Tree Funnel Web.
Yes, the bloody things can climb up vertical glass surfaces too. Just remember that if you ever put one in a glass tank to study her.
This is the most venomous spider in the world. There really cunning and smart in personality as well.

If you see a funnel web in NSW catch it in a screw top jar (not you Steve lol) with some holes in the cap and a bit of damp soil and take it to the local hospital. It will then end up in the Australian Reptile Park near Gosford where Julie and the staff will milk the valuable venom for antivenin.
Cheers, Jim.

Is that what we are supposed to do with them. We have had a number of people deliver them to us and never knew what to do with them.
ps We rang the reptile park once and they said they had enough of their own. I suspect its an urban myth.Last edited by Corigator; 28-02-2013, 05:56 PM.Greg - 08 D4D Prado,

Yeah I work in a hospital Pathology lab. I have just given them a ring and I was wrong.
Yes they are happy to take them from us if they are in a closed container. So bring them in. (When I am off the shift)
This is different to what we were told a few years ago.

Many times out in the bush I have had need to take a leak. On one occasion a red bellied black, and on another occasion, a copperhead snake popped up rather close to my 'snake.'
Judging by some of the comments here, you big 'girls' would be running away in mid stream and end up pissing yourselves. Hahaha.
