Re: TRIP REPORT: Central & Western Australia

    Nick,

As far as sealed parts are concerned, the 75 klms from the Derby end is about correct. Alot is only one lane sealed. The local diamond mine I'd suggest is funding the upgrade for the road trains they use.
There is also small 1 - 2 klms parts along the road, mainly where the road climbs through jump ups. The first 5 or so klms at the Wyndam end is also sealed.

I hope the day never comes that they seal the whole road. It would not only end one of the great experiences, but further stretch the existing facilities with the 2wd brigade - mainly international visitors I'd suggest.

Wow what a fantastic trip report. Might be just what I need to show the wife so we can plan a trip for when our boys are old enough to enjoy where we take them. Can not wait for the rest of the report.

Gee Johnv, great trip there. Im feeling inspired now, mind you the only problem is I need more than school hols to do a trip like this. Even in our own great state there are people like me that havent been to this part of WA.

I see next is Broome & Coral Bay, so Im sure you will have good report there too. Great places
        Cheers

          Top trip report.
          Fantastic pics and accompanying stories.

Looks like a great way to do it also, taking your time and short drive days.

          Top stuff.

Re: TRIP REPORT: Central & Western Australia

              Chester,

On our trip I would have to say the Gibb River Road overall was better than the Oodnadatta Track. We did do it early in the season - that may have helped. Having said that, Marree to William Creek was like a highway. William Creek to Oodnadatta was the worst. Just very loose big stones.
Whilst not familiar with the Jayco Outback, so long as it is quite robust and mechanically sound, I see no issue. Just drive to the conditions. Let your tyres down to an appropriate pressure.

We saw quite a number of off road caravans as well as the pop up campers on the GGR.
