Shame, but good to hear about the camping.

Anyway, all, we'll have to get some ideas together for the camp trip! Anyone wanna vote recommend a particular spot or date?

My thoughts are of just a 2 day/1 night event, something not too far. Eg, Jenolan, Kanangra-Boyd, Lidsdale, Cox's river.

A 2 day trip to Lidsdale leaves plenty of time for a stop at Newnes on the way! You know you want to do the "power lines rock step challenge" Glen!

While looking for that video I found this little gem, showing a Hilux driver with eyes bigger than his tyres (a bit like me) getting snatched up the same little bit that I did on the lower section of Mt Walker!

I'd be keen for a Watagans run real soon even if only for a day trip.

        • Wouldnt it be better to make the camping trip somewhere that is too far a way to do in a day trip? I dont see much point in camping at somewhere like lidsdale when it can pretty much be done in a day.

A trip to watagans sounds interesting.

I hear the Watagans is a big area, does anyone know where the good stuff is?

            • if you do the trip that is in the 4wd tracks close to sydney , its pretty dull ive done it . daniels pt rd following the power lines is supposed to be hardcore . i believe some of the rds to the nth are more interesting . i have maps for the area and some mates have done a bit of riding through there . ill find out . just for the record ,it takes less time to get to the watagans than to newnes sf . there's a couple of interesting tracks in kanangra boyd np .

Thanks for checking into it kav, let us know. I was thinking the same - Watagans is quite close, so better off leaving it for a day trip, maybe over the holiday season.

I reckon for the camp trip we go with either Kanangra Boyd N/P (easy) or Cox's via Jenolan (dry=medium, rain=very hard). But don't count on me for being a good navi, I haven't been to either of these areas.

                • ive got all the topo maps for both areas . the kanangra terrain looks more interesting on the map and probably less yocals for a weekender .

                  • Nick (with the 4" Patrol) might be interested in coming on the 20th. I'll try and get answer by Monday.

Are we in agreeance on the location for the 20th (not the camping trip)? I'm not too fussed about location. I'm probably going to simmer down this time anyway and try to avoid front wheel spin. I don't want to join the diff club.

                      • After much deliberation with oneself, I have come to the conclusion that Mt Walker is still the go!

                        If that's cool?

Next hardcore destinations are Wheeny, Ourimbah & the Watagans.
Newnes is always good for a mix of easy/medium/hard.

                          • If this is going to turn into a weekend trip, we can include Abercrombie. We've traveled some excellent tracks there and we'll lead that section of the trip. Camping spots also available. We'll need anything from half a day to a full day to cover that. I'm sure we can find some dirt roads to get us from Lidsdale to there.

Alternatively, if we head south to Yalwal, we can do the monkey gum trail......

                            • There is small amount of 4 wheeling to be had in the Dharug National Park near Wisemans Ferry that would be nice and close for those in the northern parts of Sydney (Cherrybrook, Castle Hill, Hornsby). There are several 4wd tracks marked on the map so I assume we're allowed there.

I haven't been there yet but would be keen to check it out one of these days.
