Can't wait for the 150 version to be completed, I'm sure there are plenty of others who agree with me..... hint hint..

      Bernie.
Got a call that the 2nd prototype of the light pole bracket is done. So need to get a bit of welding done for the 150 version. All 3 versions (90, 120 and 150) are slightly different. Then off for a polish and then sending it off to NSW for the test fit.

Yes, trying to make it more robust but my machinist tells me it won't work. To add to the difficulty, the components I need are sold with MOQ in the hundreds and a 1 off prototype is rather expensive. So let's just say that it is still under development.

      • Amts, Im taking my new career path seriously

        A few questions;

        1. What is the width of your spare wheel carrier? I ask this as if it is the same as the K..... ( I dare not say the word) bracket, then some parts would be interchangeable.
        2. When i was looking around for a part when making my light pole, I came across something that I thought could be used. An extendable tent pole. They come in Galv, have a tensioner so they are adjustable in height.
They come in square or round tube. I'm not sure on the wall thinkness/guage of the metal, but was thinking you could cut the top off, and weld on a small flat plate to bolt the light to?
        Geoff

Im not Bogged - I've just lost traction. . . . . and now I'm showing the wife why I bought those Maxtrax, and the tyre deflator, and the compressor, and the bullbar, and the winch, and a lot of other goodies I've hidden in the Prado

It is about 20cm wide. Any interchangeability would be purely coincidental as all the design was done from scratch. I highly doubt any of the parts from the 2 'brands' would bolt on together.

The particular pole chosen was done so that the curly cord can fit inside.

          • Great stuff Andrew. Its great to see some aussie engineering.

Im looking forward to the 150 spacer, with light pole (and maybe antenna or flag mount) being finalised so I can order one and stop checking this thread for updates!

            Keep it up

Do you one for a 120 Prado to suit 265/70/R17 Cooper AT3 with a HF Radio Mount(Codan) and light?

              Please advise

The 150 light pole bracket is now fitted up in NSW and is 99% a goer. Had a hard time catching up with the 90 series owner in my 'hood but Sunday is the day (hopefully).

No, not yet. How does a Codan antenna attach (the base looks pretty big) and is there a preference for it being on the left or right side of the tyre? I assume right side would be better for vision out the rear window but what about the shadowing effects of all the metal (i.e. the side pillars) affecting the reception of the antenna?

You are correct about the right side being best to keep it out of the line of sight but the antenna is usually mounted so that the radiating part (the whip) is above the roof line (have a look at mine in my build thread). The base of the Codan is 110mm square with an M16 hole for mounting. The tuning section is 790mm long so the mount needs to be this much below the roof line.

                      • Yes, but do bear in mind it weighs a total of 5.7kg (incl. whip and spring) and tends to flex quite a bit so the mount needs to be fairly substantial.

                        • Changed the mount to allow for a light with HF; or light with UHF and sand flag.

                          • Looks great, hopefully will be available for the 150 ;-)

Having a lower light and an upper light would be useful.

                            Good work AMTS.

                            • How far away is the design for the 150 series wheel bracket with light mount/UHF option?

Thanks Bernie. There's never enough lights.

Pretty close now. Was supposed to meet up with a 90 owner on Sunday but I spent the whole day in bed feeling sorry for myself. I'm looking to get both parts done at the same time for cost reasons.
