                Here is a pic of the lights in action. It is configured to shine down on the open area of the door as well as on the roof rack. The bright spot on the road is from the LED lights mounted inside the rear door.

                This is the view of the light being cast onto the roofrack. I predominantly need to light the roofrack to unpack as we usually arrive at our destination after dark.

                And now the door is shut and the light is rotated to shine towards the back of the car.

                The T-bracket and the 2 lights are quite heavy. I was going to use a screw to go through the T and the pole but that is not going to be enough. My current plan is to put the lights on when needed and to take it off when driving. The T needs to be riveted on to stop it shaking about at the top of the pole, and probably at 4 points.

                    Just a note that ants suggested washers as a temporary measure. I placed four washers under the bracket and another three or four on the stud and this works great. Tyre just misses door and wiper by a few mm.
                    Cheap alternative while we wait for amts to give up his day job and concentrate on more important things lol

                      Did you use longer bolts? or did the standard ones do the trick? If you need get after market size what size did you use?

                      • I did use longer bolts I happen to have laying around. They are longer than I needed and high tensile. Take a sample down to your local bolt supplier and get four that are longer as the extra washers are thick if that makes sense. There is heaps of space behind the four holes (internally) so don't be concerned if you get them too long. From memory they are a M10 x 1.5 thread. Fifteen mm longer than the factory ones would do the trick.

                        When your get the washers best take one with you as a sample that way you can't go wrong.

                            Why not make the T, complete with lights, a removable "drop on' assembly and fix it in place with a 'through bolt' and lock clip.
                            That way you have removed all the weight from the alloy tube for driving (and theft) but can quickly deploy it at the destination.
                            That, along with a waterproof power connection is what I was going to do.

                              MalcomM, not a bad idea. Simple single or dual connector comming out ~1 inch from the top of the extension poll, then the T-piece can simply slide on and off with a simple pin with the lights connecting via a short cable + connector.

                              (Yes, I get to include my pin picture again).

                              Whatever the finished product AMTS, I will be happy. Keep up the good work.
