    G'day Brett

Great videos ... what a great way to spend an Easter break.

Those steps, the ones that leapt out and bit Matthew in the diff .... are they the ones about the middle of Part 5 ???

    Cheers

No. The end of video 2 shows Matthew skillfully removing the air from his front tyre. When the tyre was changed, he had another go at the hill and at the exact same spot saw the death of the diff.

            Woohoo, I'm a member!
Going hard up a sandy hill and the rear diff goes, bummer. Drove it out on the front diff, with a disconcerting clunk/skid/clunk/skid coming from the back...

I'll do some reading and see what the latest cost is for diff or diff&locker. I've got an ARB 100k's away

Oh for the record this is where it blew, the crest of a big hill near Kilcarnup.
I turned around at the top and took this...

were you giving it a bit when trying to climb? usual story of wheel in the air coming back down with a bang?

                  or something else?

Should we put a thread in general discussion for a bulk buy of crown wheels and pinions? Not a piss take, more of a disgusted comment. It's becoming a bit regular!

Yes I was going hard, low 2nd and foot to the floor. I had to bash through the sand a bit, the holes were 2 feet deep.
I imagine a wheel bit hard and bang.

                              Something to think about that.
All the way out after mine blew I was hoping it wouldn't jam up, then I'd be pulling the centre out in deep sand, yecchh...

On a lighter note I did this in an EH Holden years ago, 17 years old and blew a diff, all jammed up.
We couldn't push it or bounce it off a busy road, what to do?
I know, rev the hell out of it, drop the clutch and blow the diff completely, at least it will move.
Did this and BANG! Blew the gearbox to bits

I'm thinking a step-by-step pictorial guide and list of necessary tools of how to do a bush-service on the diff to remove the ring gear could be a great help. It's a sad realisation, but I think I would keep such a guide in my glovebox, just in case...
