    Re: Diff Breathers

For anyone interested the previously mentioned extended diffs, transfer and trans kit from Billet Race craft excellent and so is the service. All parts are good quality and our fleet mechanic found it easy to fit. Note in the photo we havent used the 4th spot as trans and transfer are linked.

      Re: Diff Breathers

      Another option,

I fitted a commerical (billet) set of breathers to my Prado a few weeks back. The set came with blue
plastic tubing like they use for airlockers.

I used a brass fitting supplied for the rear diff.

For the other breathers, I removed the ends caps of the plastic breather fittings by cutting them carefully with
a cutting disc in a dremel.

When the caps are removed you are left with the plastic barbed fitting, I then cut the section of these fittings
that the cap was connected to and then drilled out the base to the a slighly smaller diameter than the plastic tube. Be careful
not to drill to deep and weaken the base 4mm shoul be ok.

You then have a barbed fitting you can push fit the plastic tubing into. I them used a super glue type product,
one where you have a seperate primer and is guaranteed to adhere to all plastics to glue the tubing into the
fitting. When the glue has dried make sure the hole has not become blocked with glue, if so drill out the glue
with a small drill bit. I then used a section of heat shrink over the whole assembly to double ensure it will
      not come apart.

Then advantage of retaining the original bases is that you know they fit the tubes correctly and the original
clamps will keep them in place.

      Cheers

        Re: Diff Breathers

There's a post on here that shows 4 breathers and some say there are 3 breathers (Transmission and transfered connected)

I'm about to order parts to extend my breathers. Can someone please confirm if there are 3 or 4 breathers.

        Thanks.

There are 4 points that require extending Diff x2, transmission and transfer case. Once you extend the 4 points you can (Optional) link the trans and transfer case lines prior to running the breathers into the engine bay which is what we did. My mechanic did mine but a friend of mine did his own 120 and descibed it as a pig of job that requires gadget arms, extra fingers, severe patience and the ability work sight unseen!

Here is a thread on the diff breather mod on fjcruiserforums.com.

Hi FlynDrive or anyone else happy to answer,

I am in the middle of doing my 2006 Prado Petrol 120 series (Auto) diff breathers and I have been using your post as a reference. Thank you its been very helpful, but Can you please confirm for me what and where the e locker breather is located. I couldnt find it. I have found and extended my rear diff breather, Auto Transmission breather, Transfer Case breather and front diff breather. Would you mind clarifying the e locker or centre diff lock as I have also heard it called.
                Cheers Mate,

                  Glen,

You've done them all. The E-locker is a USA only option.

                    Re: Diff Breathers

I found all 4 breathers last night. The transfer case has two hoses, one fron the front and the other from the back that join through a Y-piece.

I wasn't able to remove the transmission breather. I'll try this a bit later when I have more time.

Is the ATF breather a one way valve or a two way?

I bought a kit off eBay that did the 2 diffs, transfer case and auto, however when I got to the transmission, I found that the one breather did both via a T join. I simply removed the breather hose from the T joint and connected the new hose supplied with the kit and chased it up to the breather manifold (came with the kit) in the engine bay. The only thing I will say is that there is very limited room to place your hand up (right side of transmission) but it can be done without a hoist.

I will take photos on weekend, but here is a shot of the mainfold unit.

HI prado BB, Would you have the ebay link for this kit? Seems like a lot of different ways of doing these mods? Everyone comes up with a different idea? Is one better or cheaper then the other? Is there a kit you can just buy that does them all?
                          Cheers

Sorry it took too long to answer. The e-locker is on the FJ Cruiser. I didn't have a Prado Diff for the Pic.

On that note if anyone needs a rear e-locker for your Prado have a spare preloaded carrier with an e-locker, but for the price in shipping alone you can probably get an ARB Air locker.

Can't comment on the Carnage Off Road breathers, but I bought the Billet Race Craft kit, as a few others on here have (Lakey, Grey Nomad) and the Quality of the product is 2nd only to their sevice! Top Notch, after dealing with them and seeing their product, I wouldn't look else where, especially as pricing seems very similar.
