Ordering and fitting the overpriced one is really easy and you soon forget about the wallet pain on your first towing road trip.

Hi all, Just when I think I am starting to get my head around it. Bamboozled again with technology. Peter, I nada look at ebay but there are so many, all different.
Rusty, I'm lost again. Maybe not meant to be mate. I may stuff it up. I will start reading it all again. Take care and cheers Bill.

The system i use was designed by an electrical engineer (my son ). The ECU on our car required an input to replicate the coil on the valve in the gearbox to prevent alarms. The second resister is to reduce the power to this valve. I'm not sure but some of the 120 series have slightly different electrics with the traction control fitted cars. Our unit only has two relays but they are duel units so very compact. He also made a small circuit board to mount these relays.Originally posted by chardo View PostRusty62 - Hi Rusty, I have a 2007 D4D auto 5 speed. I have been following Mark (MRW82) and have started constructing the kit as per diagram on Page 8. He said to use a 6.8 ohms, 5 amp resistor. I don't have a lot of knowledge in auto electronics even though I do all my own mechanical work. Most of the things you have all been doing goes over my head, but i have sat down and started putting the relays together and was hoping that Mark would come on and update his system. I was actually just looking at your Image earlier this afternoon. I don't understand what you mean with the 6.8 and the the 12 ohms. I thought there was just one resistor in the kit like in the kit I helped fit to my nephews 200 series from Wholesalers Auto. How is your kit going now??? I priced a kit for mine the other day from Wholesalers, It was $ 525 + postage i think. Thanks for getting back to me Rusty. Cheers for now Bill.
.
I will see if the circuit is still on his computer and post.
Rusty.

If it's aluminium with a heat sink that sounds like a 25W or 50W resistor. I've tried reading through it all but there doesn't seem to be a coherent summary of what works.
6 ohm 50W resistors are available on eBay cheaply - I got a set of 4 for $6.50 delivered. Search for "LED load resistor" and make sure you check the resistor value included! Jaycar doesn't seem to stock 25W ones any more - the highest they go is 10W. You could put 3 x 18 ohm 10W resistors in parallel if you needed to (this one).
You said you were looking for 6.8 ohms - 6 is pretty close but I'm not sure how much it matters. Hopefully someone who has done it will help...

peter_mcc,
Hi and thanks Peter, The Post no. for the diagram is #107. The resistor is aluminium with a heat sink. These seem to be used on all the kits I have seen while looking around. I will check in Jaycar in Darwin next time I'm up there and see what they have. Thanks and cheers Bill.

I can't find the post you refer to (I think I changed the default number of posts per page from standard) but I suspect the resistor is actually 6.8 ohms 5 watt - if it was 6.8 ohm 5A then it would be 170W (P = I x I x R = 5 x 5 x 6.8) which is huge! It would also have 34V across it (V = I x R) which would be a bit unusual for a 12V vehicle.Originally posted by chardo View PostI have been following Mark (MRW82) and have started constructing the kit as per diagram on Page 8. Assuming it's a 5W resistor you could get something like this or this from Jaycar

Cardo.
Yes it did cost a bit to recondition the engine. Not a job i would like to do again.
Be warned re tuning chips. They WILL cause the injectors to leak due to raising the rail pressure. This WILL cause a hot spot on a piston and the eventual hole in a piston WILL come as a result.
Doing a lot of research on engine failures the vast majority are D4D engines with chips that tow.
Good luck to anyone that is running a tuning chip that raises rail pressure that tows.
Rusty.

This is for a D4D 2008 auto 5 speed. What car do you have.
6.8 ohms to replicate the lock up solenoid for the ecu.
12 ohms to give 1 amp to send to the lockup solenoid.
2 x SPST DIL 12v latching relays.

Rusty.

MRW82 Hi Mark, I am getting my bits together, relays well under way, but am having a problem finding a resistor that is 5 amps. They all seem to be in Watts. can you please let me know if it is watts or amps. thanks and cheers Bill.

Hi again all, Where is everyone, HELP!!!! I am seriously looking at having a go at constructing a lock up kit and have been studying all the diagrams you
have put in, but I still need some help. Can somebody put the relay contact numbers on a diagram please like Mark did on his first drawing. He has changed it quite a bit since. I have a bit of an idea now but I'm still not that sure on it all. Thanks and cheers Bill.

Hi All, Happy New Year. I have fitted my Christmas present, (scan gauge) and have entered the new code for the auto trans temp. Seems to be a great little addition to my nick backs. I am still learning to drive it yet, with only one tank still going down. New donuts coming up in the next month. Now have 105,000kms on without a flat, touch wood. Well better keep going. Take care and cheers Bill.

Thanks Rusty, That must have been an expensive time repairing the motor. Did it go quick or was there any warning signs? Santa is giving me a Scan gauge for Christmas. I have also been having a look at the Ultra gauge from America. They don't have the Auto temp on them yet, although someone over here has one set up on a 200 series and he can read the Auto temp. Has anyone had anything to do with one yet?
Hi Mark, Have you any plans on fitting a Chip in the future? I have found it very worthwhile in towing the Poptop van. I have had mine in for approx 7 years now with no probs. I have seen a Chip It chip in a 200 series and he has a lot of tuning issues with it. I have mine set about half way and has been good for me.
Did you get a chance yet to upgrade your wiring diagram. I have someone up here that can help me build one up I think. Well All, I'd better keep moving. Have a great Christmas and New Year if we don't catch up sooner. All the best Bill.

Scan gauge will work after it is calibrated. Easy job just adjust the liters used at fillup.Originally posted by chardo View PostMRW82
Hi all, Mark, sounds like everything went well and a great holiday because of it. Question >>> Do you have the beast chipped. I read that the scanguage does not show true figures on some things when a chip is fitted. I have a DP Chip. (Good gear) What chip do you have Rusty??? Keep up the great work boys! I luv it. Thanks and cheers Bill.
