    Hey,

I have 5 small cracks in mine, it's an 08/06 build. How do we find out if our VIN is in the range that Toyota are considering??

Took my 04 GXL to my local dealer to be told it was outside the 10 year period and Toyota had rejected it. He is going to put an appeal in on my behalf. There are other owners who have older vehicles than mine who are reporting that have had their claims approved. Sure is inconsistent.

    cheers

    Jim

2006 is still within the 10year cut off. It's those that are more than 10 years that are getting inconsistent results from the dealer.

But why a dash that cracks in 10 years or 13 years is treated differently is anyone's guess.

I'd like to know what the VIN range is.

My dealer said they won't replace my headlights under extended warranty due to UV damage (they never have) and steering wheel due to wear and tear. I said put the claim in anyway and guess what, Toyota approved it. People can always take their own photos and submit them directly to Toyota HQ if you are having issues with your dealer.

Sounds like Toyota is providing some excellent service on this.

If the dealer is not the same, try another one, its about the person & their attitude. Tell them you know others who have had it covered.
Maybe there needs to be a new thread listing those who have had it covered outside warranty period.
D.o.m, date of repair, dealer, etc?

    Make it a sticky?

My Prado is booked in for Thursday for a complete dash pad replacement approved by Toyota Australia and not the dealer.

    Cost to me.....zero.

It's called an out of warranty claim and service manager took a copy of the front page of the service manual to get the VIN.

I've had a couple of questions so for the record -
The car is 04/06 build GX,
    227,000km on the clock,
    I am the second owner,
    I've owned it since 05/08,
car has not been serviced by a Toyota dealer since warranty finished,
I have used a dash pad cover but removed it before going in,
I've only ever used a damp cloth and Armoral to clean it,
the crack is over the instrument binicle one side to the other and not over the airbags,
The time frame - I went in on the Monday to try and put the claim in, service manager took photos and video, Wednesday they rang me to say they were surprised but Toyota approved it and they'd order one, following Monday dealer rang to say it's in, booked for this Thursday.

No issue and I have stuff like CB, gas gauge and scan gauge screwed into the dash hard plastics. If they were going to knock one back I thought mine would be it but there you go...

Had done well on my 04 GXL which I've owned since new, then just last year cracks started to appear. Was declined any sort of part contribution for the repair from Toyota. Has anyone had any success in even a part contribution from Toyota to the cost of replacement for a Prado 10+ years old?
The car is still as good, in my opinion, as anything you can get today - bit spoilt being Toyota owners when mechanically things stay so tight - but when plastics and the like start to go it just gets you down!

Pretty sure I've already heard of a few '07 models being affected and more still to come. It comes as the years passes. Wait a couple more years and you'll see the last of the '09 ones cracked too

I made the out of warranty request at Blood Toyota Geelong. Service manager took photos and video and was not optimistic, said he'd never seen it before.....yeah right!. Anyway next day phone call to say Toyota Australia will replace it free of charge within a week. No issues. I'm totally stoked. The car is 9.5 years old. The crack was over the instrument binacle not the airbag. Worth making the enquiry. Wal
