I had my claim rejected the other day.
Using Facebook posts and info from here, I even made up a presentation showing same age and older prado's that had been replaced around Australia. As expected, it didn't make any difference and I received the usual "older than 10yrs" explanation.

Thanks PPers and Toyota Wide Bay

A sincere thank you to all PP posters for the info about dash replacements (and other very useful info). I was pleasantly surprised at the reception I got at Toyota Wide Bay (Hervey Bay QLD) as I bought the car elsewhere and have serviced it myself since the warranty expired, the dash was replaced promptly with no hesitation and cheerful friendly service including courtesy transport both ways. Couldn't be happier.

    Cheers
    Jim

There responses are all over the place. There was some one on here with an 04 grande (think it was grande) 3rd owner never serviced by Toyota and got it passed just earlier this year. You have others just 10 days over the 10 years and there knocked back. I still say if you do one then you should be doing all of them. Some people have used dash matts, garaged, under cover, use sunscreen which obviously has pro longed the cracking process and really have screwed them selves, where as if they didn't give a shit, didn't protect it they would have had their dash pads cracking with in the 10 year period. I'd still like to see what would happen if some one had an accident (I hope not) and the hard plastic shards from the airbag cover landed in some ones passengers eye and caused damage, I'd be suing toyotas arse if it was me.

The circumstances are probably service history and purchase history. If you've had a few Toyotas and always get them serviced at Toyota I'm guessing they would be more leinient than if you only take it to them when there is a problem. In fairness if it were my business I'd be the same.

Is there a cut off for the dash replacement? Mine is a 2005 and today the dash just broke out in cracks.

Interesting, when I went there to enquire about it they were extremely rude and dismissive. Tried all the tricks to palm it off. Very disappointing considering it was bought new there in 2005 and service with them for 6years. They hadn't bothered to change the rego plate over in the system from the first 5,000km service all those years ago either. Also claimed the towbar recall wasn't applicable even though it came up against my VIN.

Took it elsewhere, got the dash done easily and did the towbar recall (even though I didn't ask about it). Will never ever be back to Bill Buckle for parts, service or new vehicle.

Glad you got your car sorted! With a 2007 model your dash is well inside 10 years cutoff though.

Cracks ran horizontal across the SRS airbag labeling (about 5 long cracks). Across the instrument console and cracks to all vents.
Second day in the workshop was today. Dropped it off at 8am and collected at 5pm. Nice to have a clean dash again. The service agent dude said it was the 2nd dash this week so the technician would be getting bored with two days of dash replacements.

Kudos to Bill Buckle Toyota for chasing Toyota HQ and getting a 9year vehicle done!

@Madkore, We got the dash replaced at no cost, but when we went to pick the car up, the person at the service desk tried to charge us $1,100 for new dash and labor. Worse case you shouldn't have to pay more than that.

    Well Toyota, I concede defeat.

Despite my belief that a dash should last the life of a vehicle, I have resigned myself to the fact I am gonna have to fork out $2000 if I want a new dash of my 12yo vehicle.

    Disappointing Toyota...
