Below is the paragraph that refers to to an item being unsafe.
What is a major problem?
A product or good has a major problem when:
it has a problem that would have stopped someone from buying it if they’d known about it
it is unsafe
it is significantly different from the sample or description
it doesn’t do what the business said it would, or what you asked for and can’t easily be fixed.
A service has a major problem when:
it has a problem that would have stopped someone from buying it if they’d known about it
it is substantially unfit for its common purpose and can’t easily be fixed within a reasonable time
it does not meet the specific purpose you asked for and cannot easily be fixed within a reasonable time
it creates an unsafe situation.
From my experience, being successful in getting a replacement for a 2004GXl V6, the input from the dealer is crucial.
I saw two dealers one took photos etc and got a knock back, eventually a yes after an appeal. The other gave me a yes without even sighting the vehicle after I put in a request via their chat line.
As I mentioned above I got mine in 2days!!!!!!! before the 10 years and got immediate approval but was Told if I had come in after that 10 years from delivery it would have been "very difficult". When you think about it, 10 years for a warranty claim aint half bad. I am the 3rd owner [although have had it for 8 years] and all Toyota have to do with it is 2 recalls- bull bar and tow bar. If yours has an 06 delivery date check your dash very carefully- mine cracked over a 2 hour period in an underground car park and has spent most of its days undercover.
Can anyone confirm the VIN range that Toyota are focusing on to reject claims?
They're not going off VIN ranges, only the warranty date i.e the delivery date of the vehicle. If you look in the front of your service/warranty book it is shown there in the vehicle details.
