Hi all,
those of you that have unfortunately suffered the cracked inner guard, did you notice any sound coming from the engine bay area when the vehicle flexed or coming to a stop? I've got an occasional sound, thought it might be this issue but can't see any obvious crack.
cheers

You said you have a patch on the passenger side, im unable to locate any part numbers for that side, does yours look like a factory pressed patch?

DOM: 11/2011
Engine: D4D
Model: GXL
Crack Location: Passenger Side
Crack appeared @: 70,000km
Toyota Response: don't want anything to do with it as its out of factory warranty. I Have Toyota extended warranty (which is a 3rd part insurance company) they blame Toyota and say it's a manafactoring defect and Toyota are blame aftermarket acessorys being fitted to avoid recalls .
Have been asked to take the car over the weigh bridge for axel weights front 1350kg and rear 1150kg has been hand balled from dealership to different departments for 4 months now.
Outcome: Currently with the financial ombudsman awaiting an engineers report on the cause of the crack
Battery & Weight: optuma yellow tops
Battery Tray: ABR
Tray Modifications:
Vehicle Modifications:TJM Steel bullbar, TJM 9500 winch, OME suspension and duel battery's

That's right, it's not Toyota's fault. They only have a repair kit as a customer service and they didn't change the design of the inner guards on the face lifted model because they had a problem either. And they are not interested when you point out that it is occurring on stock vehicles. It is the aftermarket suspension that is the cause! Sons of spinsters!!White 2012 GXL 150 TD Auto. Work in progress. Aiming to spend less than when I kitted out the 120!

Hey Rob, Grab your aux battery and rock it gently towards the front/rear of the car, and watch what happens to the crack...the crack opened up a bit on mine with a backwards and forwards rocking motion...but on the other side I had a battery tray that had a "brace" onto the front cross piece...so it prevented undue backwards and forwards rocking motion of the battery when off-roading...and no cracked guard on the side with my TJM battery tray...I think you may have to try and prevent a rocking motion of the aux battery, so it may be best to use a battery tray that has a horizontal metal brace onto the upper front engine cross member...just a thought?Last edited by brogers; 31-01-2016, 10:19 PM.SE Qld: GX 150GD Auto, (Feb'16 build): TJM T15 steel b bar, 9,500lb TORQ winch, TJM s steps, Rhino Pioneer Platform (42102B 1928X1236mm), front recovery points, Wynnum towbar, P3 brake controller, TNN Underbody guards, UHF, TREKtable & LED striplight, Custom Fridge & Drawers, Waeco CFX50, 9inch illuminator 160W LED spots, 40mm lifted Dobinson Suspension (Zordo's), ScanguageII, 30 Sec Wing Awning

I definitely would have to agree to this one as well..... I had a crack on the Drivers side years ago and after being repaired, I copied what TJM did and added a support bracket to prevent the Fwd/back motion and all has been good 4yrs down the track
Will be doing the same to the OEM battery on the passengers side b4 our next outback adventure.....
